tooter Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 Can anyone identify this tune from the short depiction here? I could write out more if it would help but should think this is enough if you know it. It comes from a session on dime-a-dozen recently by the Ray Brown Trio, with Monty Alexander and Russell Malone. I'm trying a manuscript example first but if this doesn't work may make an MP3. Thanks. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 I just took it to the piano. Nice lick. I don't know what the tune is. Quote
tooter Posted July 23, 2006 Author Report Posted July 23, 2006 Thanks for trying Chris. I've now put the complete tune as played by Ray Brown and his Trio onto verzend so anyone who would be willing to listen to it should be able to download from this link. Should only take a few seconds. Hope it works. Quote
tooter Posted July 23, 2006 Author Report Posted July 23, 2006 I see from verzend that the sample has been downloaded five times already - thanks to those who have listened so far. Quote
JSngry Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 It's not any standard that I've ever heard. Quote

tooter Posted July 23, 2006 Author Report Posted July 23, 2006 It's not any standard that I've ever heard. It sounds familiar to me, but then most tunes do But if you don't know it, Jim, I haven't much hope of success. Appreciate you trying. Quote
JSngry Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 Hey - I've heard a lot of standards, but by no means all of them. And the one's I've heard, I don't always remember. This is one of 'em. Evan's got it right - "I Can't See For Looking" it is. I pulled out the Red Garland Solar album and confirmed it. Looks like it was a tune originally done by Nat Cole in the 1940s. Sorry for my screwup, but glad that we all now know what it is! Quote

Success despite my foregoing negative comment. Thanks very much, Evan. Mission accomplished. Quote
