Gary Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 (edited) The Andrew Hills are also listed as not available. This is the fourth time this has happened. I don't know why they bother to list them in the sale. Don't know which Hills you're looking for, but Italian internet store ControTempo might be able to supply them. You can order in English , just click on the title etc. The page can take a while to load. how do you find cotrotempo's service? I have only ordered the once from them , at the start of July i ordered 3 Ellery Eskelin CDs after asking for recommendations on this board . Last week i hadnt heard or received anything so i Emailed them , they replied they had one but they will be ordering the other 2 at the end of August! I was hoping for slightly faster service than this. Are they normally quite reliable & I've just been a bit unlucky ? Edited August 7, 2003 by Gary Quote

They're extremely reliable (they filled all but one of my orders), but they're also very slow... (must be the scorching heat in Europe at the moment ) Quote
JSngry Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 Looks like most of the Bill Dixon stuff is gone too, which is REALLY bummin' me. Quote
Joe Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 I've always really loved this album... http://www.cybermusicsurplus.com/online_ca..._tag=BSN3120083 Quote
Guest Chaney Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 The Andrew Hills are also listed as not available. This is the fourth time this has happened. I don't know why they bother to list them in the sale. They must be headquartered on a planet which defines the word 'AVAILABLE' in a way which differs from that of us Earthlings. This is all too common: Get 'em in the door with BIG promises and then stiff 'em. Fill the order as best you can and then blame the unfilled balance on out-of-date listings - laziness for which NO ONE is ever responsible. (Maybe it's our fault?) I'd call this either entrapment (of a sort) or false advertising. I guess were not expected to bitch and moan as we're not charged for our ultimate disappointment. The Internet Police are W A Y too lax on this bullshit. ALL venting aside, considering that I ordered nearly (GoD help me) THIRTY CDs and they stiffed me on four, I shouldn't complain. Quote

"Available" means stuff they currently have in inventory. If they're out of stock on something, then it's not included in the sale. They had some Andrew Hill titles "available" at one time, and now they're "out of stock". Quote
Stefan Wood Posted August 7, 2003 Author Report Posted August 7, 2003 The Andrew Hills were listed as "Available" when I placed the order. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 This happens with cybermusicsurplus: they may have one copy of the item in stock, someone orders it, and the database is not updated until after the order has been shipped and in the meantime several others may have ordered. Overall this is a great place to do business with although there is this phenomenum which has happened to me several times. Quote
Big Wheel Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 Another quibble I have with cybermusicsurplus is that they're owned by allegro, yet you can't combine an allegro order with a cybermusicsurplus order to save on shipping like you can do with Mosaic/True Blue. Kind of silly considering that AFAIK the cds come from the same warehouse. Quote

Wouldn't it be nice if all sites could have at least this one Amazon.com feature?: Only 1 left in stock--order soon (more on the way) Place your oder, go back to the listing and see that, as if by magic, there are NO MORE in stock... but there's more on the way. Beauty. Overall this is a great place to do business with although there is this phenomenum which has happened to me several times. Agree and same here. Quote

jazzbo Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 Oh, I meant that I have placed a NUMBER of orders to this outfit, and this has happened to me several times, well maybe five times. I guess I had that worded a little weirdly! Quote

pryan Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 OK, I tried a search just now in the "Jazz" section and found that they have 1 Count Basie title, 0 Lester Young discs, and 2 Miles Davis cds. Maybe I'm searching wrong, but, if not, that selection is pretty brutal. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 Yeah, I guess I misspelled it, in a hurry to get a post off before I went off to lunch. I'm lenient about spelling, mine and others; we've been down this road! Quote
jazzbo Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 Hey Paul: THEY SOLD OUT OF THOSE FIRST! Those type of cds just don't end up in cutoutland! -_- Quote

doubleM Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 I know where there is a copy of one of the Rivers/Holland cd's (used), here in Portland, for about $8.50. However, I'm leaving town to go to the Bahamas B) tomorrow. If anyone really wants this, I may be able to call and have them hold it. Quote
pryan Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 Hey Paul: THEY SOLD OUT OF THOSE FIRST! Those type of cds just don't end up in cutoutland! -_- Hmmm, makes sense. Why didn't I think of that? Yep, I'm a moron sometimes. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 Paul, also, outside of the Chronogical (sic) Classics and the Qualiton series, there are no labels that are really reissuing Basie and Pres distributed by the Allegro group other than a few bargain cutrate ones such as Prism, Hallmark, River City, etc. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 That's how I took it Hans when I realized that was what it was! I just hadn't thought of it as a joke at the time I read it, but rather that my wording was a bit confusing, a worse offense! Quote
pryan Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 So, Lon, what's another good place to pick up the Classics titles at a good price? Quote
jazzbo Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 Hmmm. . . . I really haven't found a CHEAP source for the Classics cds. When Allegro lost the distributorship, I bought dozens from cybermusicsurplus; now City Hall has the distributorship and I haven't found any cheap sources for them. . . . The best deal may be cheap-cds or cduniverse, especially in pre-order mode. Quote
Joe Christmas Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 Unlike a LOT of younger guys who go for that old-school thing, Shelley comes by it COMPLETELY honestly. The last two times I heard him play in Dallas say COMPLETELY otherwise. Please tell me you're joking, Jim. The Ellington record is infectious though. Quote
