I've been listening to this for the first time in a while. I'm not crazy about everything on here (the ballad on side 4 is a little cheesy for my tastes), but "Open", both Folk Songs, "80/81" and "The Turnaround" are among the best Metheny I've heard!

I've always liked this side since it first came out in................umm, not sure what year that was. ;)

80 or 81. A classic Metheny album, I love this.

Really enjoy this one. However, this one and "Song X" are the only Metheny-led sessions that have ever really done anything for me.

Your memory for dates is a lot better than mine... ;)

"Every Day (I Thank You) is one of Pat's best ballads IMO, I was listening to it last night, such pretty changes and a great Brecker solo. David Sanchez played this with the Pat Metheny Trio recently and it did not have the same effect. I also love Brecker's solo on "Two Folk Songs" it's really funny too, a bassist I am friends with who's in a few local bands, we talk about that tune the first thing we talk about is how out Mike's solo is. "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOO" Jack DeJohnette man!" at the end of "The Turnaround" is priceless. Calling Joe Gloss, calling Joe Gloss! :)

Metheny's cool and all that, but the reason I still pull this one out is Dewey.

He's smokin' on the tune "80/81", with Haden and Jack DeJ laying down some great swing.

This sort of pop-jazz really isn't my thing. But otherwise, Brecker's playing on this album is really great. Especially on "Folk Song #1" and "Open".

I love the groove on "Folk Song #2" -- it reminds me of "Backwoods Song" on the first Gateway album. Charlie Haden may not like playing vamps, but he's damn good at it. I just love that guy's playing.
