chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez
does mosaic pride itself on not including original liner notes and cover photos, etc on their releases. this perturbs me greatly. why do u they have 2 be like that
jazzbo
Why not call or email them and ask them? What makes you think anyone here can really speak for them? I think one reason is they were given a trunkload of Francis Wolff photos and they use these whenever they can. It gives them a unique look that allows them to use images not available anywhere else, AND they don't have to pay for the use of images that belong to others. couw
AND they get to flip and mirror them as they please. Make sure the guy on the cover is facing right, that's the forward motion, it looks more flashy. Facing left looks old and tired.

mikeweil
Sometimes they used the original liner notes. But to put the music into historical perspective new liner notes are the better choice, methinks. They could reproduce the original covers as well, though. couw
Is it just me, or is this like the oldest jazz bbs question known to mankind? No biggie, just curious... it is just you as the oldest one is "if I like Kenny G, what should I buy next?" B. Clugston
Also by not using original covers, Mosaic saves money on colour printing costs.

Hot Ptah
Mosaic does include the image of some of the original covers, in color, in some of its Select sets.

BFrank
Also, technically, they're not releasing collections of albums but collections of tunes or sessions.
