Otherwise, if this were a serious discussion, then the only appropriate responses, which are not being allowed would be "human" or "I've never seen him, so I cannot tell." But please don't delete this, I'd really like to get Johnny's response to this.

I just thought the question raised on the other thread was interesting and amusing. How do you tell someone's race? Even by looking at them? Can you tell on the phone? On the internet? What are the clues? Brings to mind the recent study that showed resumes with "black" names (e.g. Keisha) were less likely to be selected for job interviews than those with "white" names (e.g. Megan) when everything else was equal. To reiterate: just for fun. I have no problem with you, Dan, even if you might be a WASP

A better poll would deal with the question you pose in your last post, so that the choices might be: I can't tell I think he's white because he defends Bush I don't care-he seems like a nice guy/jerk I'm Johnny, he's white just cause I KNOW The argument I am having with Johnny is a serious one and I think it is worth discussing. I just don't think your approach is conducive to the discussion. And now to keep everyone guessing- PEACE!

I just don't think your approach is conducive to the discussion. I agree this issue merits discussion. It could also use some humor. The options I chose, except for the first few, are ones that explode conventional notions of race. As a mixture of Sicilian, Irish, Native American, German, French, and Welsh, I check "white" on the census form, but if there was a "mongrel" box I would check that.
