Shrdlu Posted August 4, 2019 Report Posted August 4, 2019 (edited) Who saw Pops live? I did. Adelaide, Australia, 1955, with (for me) his best lineup, with Trummy, Ed Hall, Billy Kyle, Arvell Shaw and Barrett Deems. I don't remember whether Velma was present. Edited August 4, 2019 by Shrdlu Quote

Ted O'Reilly Posted August 5, 2019 Report Posted August 5, 2019 I saw Armstrong, with Trummy Young, Peanuts Hucko, Billy Kyle, Danny Barcelona and I think Mort Herbert, at the Arena in Hamilton Ontario, in the autumn of 1959. I remember the event, if not the exact date. Most of my college classmates were already deep into rock, and me liking jazz was considered odd. Quote

ghost of miles Posted August 4, 2020 Report Posted August 4, 2020 Trotting out this archival Night Lights show today on social media in honor of the great man: Satchmo, Take Two: Louis Armstrong At The Movies The world may not seem that wonderful, especially right now, but it's always at least a little bit that way if you're listening to Louis Armstrong. mjzee Posted August 4, 2021 Report Posted August 4, 2021 I prefer when his birthday was July 4th. Still, happy birthday, Louie! Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted August 4, 2021 Report Posted August 4, 2021 Pops. He will always be the best. Duke once said, “Louis was born poor, and died rich, but he never hurt anyone his entire life.” Quote
JSngry Posted August 4, 2021 Report Posted August 4, 2021 This is how you program your kid correctly. Put them down for their nap and lay the Glenn Miller Story OST record with these two at the end of each side. Teach your children that all is not as it seems looking out their front door. It's the right thing to do! oh MY!!!! Quote

JSngry Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 I hate that the best we can be is dead. We need him or her or it or them to be alive and walking the planet today, in the flesh and in the blood. If love conquers all, perhaps we no longer understand love. But Louis never forgot. Quote
