JSngry Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 Why don't we make Louis Armstrong an honorary member of this board? Then we can PM him all day long and get some hellacious good stories back as a result! Everybody in? Quote

JSngry Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 I watched High society again over the weekend...in so many ways, nothing to do with Louis Armstrong, in so many ways, definitive Louis Armstrong...I'm to the point now to where I don't care how dreadful/contrived/corney/show-biz/whatever-negative the environs are (and High Society is actually pretty fine, really, Bing Crosby hippest white guy ever? not cool, but hip), whenever Louis Armstrong is there, I'm happy to see him, and less happy when he leaves. The man was, and in death remains, a life-force for the ages. I'd be all for making his birthday a secular/religious holiday like Christmas. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 4, 2016 Author Report Posted August 4, 2016 Another year without Pops but we will always have his spirit! Happy Birthday Gates! Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Happy Birthday, Pops. Without you, jazz would not be jazz. Quote

Yeah, even though it's corny, I've always enjoyed that Satch sequence. 'Course, I love the "Did You Evah" duet with Sinatra too. Satch is immortal. gregmo Quote
