Kyo Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 (edited) I like the painting on the cover of the LP. However, if there's a previously unpublished photo of Hank... If there was ever one guy who completely had "the look". Check out the new cover for Another Workout: I like it better than the original (which I sold a few months ago in preperation for the RVG). That is a WONDERFUL sleeve! Oh definitely YES! A great new photo and the lettering emulating the original "Workout". Someone put thought into what people would like. MG Quote
Kyo Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 Dorham, Kenny/Trompeta Toccata Griffin, Johnny/The Congregation Mobley, Hank/Another Workout Morgan, Lee/The Cooker Just ordered those four from a German store that's selling them for €6.29 each. Already have the Byrd/Pepper Mosaic, otherwise I'd grab that album as well. Great batch! And the September one looks just as good! Quote

I'm keeping the original, but I just may get this puppy---nothing like a good cover to get the blood pumping. Quote

MG My thoughts exactly, re: the classy emulation of the original 'Workout' sleeve art. And not a single booby or cock in sight. Edited August 11, 2006 by sidewinder Quote

Are the european RVGs now uncopyprotected (like the latest Connoisseur batch)? www.plattenladen.com I don't know about shipping to Luxembourg but since recently they even offer free shipping within Germany when you order stuff for €20 or more which is pretty incredible considering most of their prices to start with. I've ordered only once from them and that was a small haul (three discs) but everything went fine. This new order is for 14 discs (for just €95!!), hope it all works out. So far everything seems to be fine to me. Edited August 15, 2006 by Kyo Quote

Kyo Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 A late thanks for your reply, Kyo. Very interesting prices indeed. You're welcome. I wonder when I'll receive my order with the new RVGs. For some reason they list them as "released on August 10th" (amazon.de says August 18th instead). But unlike the other RVGs (1-2 days) these are "ready to ship within 6-8 days". Hmmm... Quote
Big Al Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 (edited) Picked up THE COOKER and ANOTHER WORKOUT. THE COOKER absolutely smokes!!! I'd never heard this disc before, and I'm gaga for this disc! My favorite version of "A Night in Tunisia!" Philly Joe just KILLS on this. Having Pepper Adams on it is a treat as well; just as nice as anything he did with Donald Byrd, which is saying a LOT! ANOTHER WORKOUT is also great music, but I'm not very impressed with the remastering. Sounds very flat. Whereas Philly Joe crackles and his snare-drum POPS with authority, here it sounds like he's playing through a giant marshmallow. Edited August 16, 2006 by Big Al Quote
