fasstrack
1974. Verve. If you don't own it, do. One of the all-time greats IMO. I never grow tired of it, Elis Regina, Tom Jobim, Cesar Mariano's timeless arrangements, the wonderful supporting cast of players. I have it as a goal to learn every note. I recommend especially making love or falling in love to it. Edited July 5, 2006 by fasstrack
jazzbo
An excellent album. I'm not big on discussing albums, but I will say this one is a great introduction to Tom or Elis, and an important musical "event."
Bluesman
One of those perfect recordings that gets better with age. I never tire of hearing this. I played this for a Brazilian friend who was feeling homesick while overseas and she was reduced to tears.
Guy Berger
Hey, there's already an AOTW for this week. (Alon Marcus chose Art of Rhythm.) You should PM JohnS to sign up for a future slot. Guy Edited July 6, 2006 by Guy
jazzbo
OOOH! Busted by the AOTW POLICIA! Just call this one the "Brazilian Album of the Week!"
jazzbo
What I'll never forget about this album is the bubbling joy in Elis' voice in the exchanges in "Agua de Mars". . . unforgettable!
Peter Johnson
My absolute favorite thing about this record. It's a wonder they made it to the end of the song--they were both laughing! Rarely is joy so palpable in an audio recording! I highly recommend this one. What I'll never forget about this album is the bubbling joy in Elis' voice in the exchanges in "Agua de Mars". . . unforgettable!

fent99
There's a special edition with DVD, anyone sprung for that? Also some out takes on the Jobim "man from ipanema" set. Not worth buying for that but its a great set
jazzbo
The DVD edition is a DVD-Audio and there's no video portion. It will display on screen track by track the track and personnel information with an image of the cover photo, but that's it as far as video. Sounds really good! mr jazz
I've never bought the actual cd but have all tracks (i think) scattered across several other cds. It is a gem. Probably due for a remastering (if it hasn't already occurred). any unreleased stuff if there is any from the sessions would be nice as well.
