Christiern Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 This has always been a disgusting "event" and it is made even more so in this age of gross over-eating. Quote

Guy Berger Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 SS1, how much did the second-place finisher get? Kobayashi's dominance of the field is pretty incredible. Guy Quote
Christiern Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 Not my idea of "fun." It is the watermelon-eating contest dressed up and perpetuated with typical American excess. The fact that some people take delight in these exhibitions of overindulgence is rather telling, I think. Would it not be nice if the people who arrange these things, and the press that covers them, instead put some effort into feeding those who really need it? Quote
Guy Berger Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 2nd place ate over 50 Crazy... has anybody come that close to Kobayashi before? Guy Quote
Soulstation1 Posted July 4, 2006 Author Report Posted July 4, 2006 i'm not sure he won by 10/12 HD last year Quote

chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 i can eat more hot dogs than u SoulStation1. in 1998 i won the Love's BBQ 4th of july Rib Eating contest. and if i can pound the ribs i surely can mow down the hotdogs Quote
Free For All Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 Personally, I don't think a hot dog eating contest is a harbinger of Armageddon, but here are some fun facts. According to an online source, one Nathan's dog has 309 calories, 7.8g of saturated fat (39% of RDA) and 684mg of sodium (29% of RDA). So Kobayashi's 53 3/4 hot dog feast (assuming he kept 'em down- do these guys purge after it's all over?) would then contain: 16,609 calories 419g saturated fat 36,765mg of sodium That's, like, a lot.
