Only one word for that. Tasty. He plays trombone a lot like Jack Teagarden in that he never moves his slide hand much below the bell of the horn. Also, did my eyes deceive me, or was that a six string upright bass?

There are other vids here too. One of the 1961 Jazz Messengers w/ Morgan and Shorter doing "Dat Dere". One of some Japanese guy interviewing Miles Davis and one of Sammy Davis Jr. doing a pretty good impression of Michael Jackson. I didn't look at it, but there's a Cannonball Adderley video as well.

I knew it was Yusef, which meant it must be Zawinul. Towards the end he looks straight at the camera and it's plain as day that it's JZ. But before, it was a little hard to tell.

I'm not sure, but I think there was a little period where Lateef & Barry Harris were on that band together, so...

I'm probably wrong on that.

That may be but I think I'd be able to tell Zawinul and Barry Harris apart! At first I thought it might be Victor Feldman, but then I noticed Yusef and I don't think those two played in the band together.

Not sure where you got the whole 6-string bass thing from, cause I distinctly saw 4, but they do exist. Love the sound of that high C, bowed, played well.

Looking at the other videos that person uploaded, I stumbled onto what seemed to be the complete Frank Rosolino (quartet) performance on "Jazz Scene, USA".

Thanks for reminding me about that site, Jack. There's more out there than just YouTube.

i recently switched on the TV at 10 in the morning and found a 30 minute excerpt of some concert of Don Menza and Carl Fontana with the WDR big band... nice surprise
