kulu se mama Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 i was lucky enough to find all seven volumes of this great set used. they are all in excellent condition, but i have a question that i hope someone here can answer. volume 1 has 3 booklets - liner notes in japanese, liner notes in english, and a lyric booklet. the remaining six volumes only have the liner notes in english. were they all released with 3 seperate booklets or just the first volume? thanks in advance. jazzbo Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 If I remember correctly only Volume 1 had that many booklets; I think the others all had only one. Quote
kulu se mama Posted June 8, 2006 Author Report Posted June 8, 2006 lon - i can always count on you. thanks for the help. Quote
brownie Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 The series was one of my very first venture into the world of CDs when they came out. A magnificient enterprise, worthy of Mosaic! From the seven sets, volume 1 and volume 2 have these triple booklets. All others have the single booklets in english. All the sets I have were Made in Japan, except volume 4 which bears the 'Made in W. Germany' stamper! Volume 5, 6 and 7 had Obis. Hope you have those! Otherwise your purchase was worthless Quote
kulu se mama Posted June 9, 2006 Author Report Posted June 9, 2006 Volume 5, 6 and 7 had Obis. Hope you have those! Otherwise your purchase was worthless urgh - i guess i'll have to sell them on ebay for $5 a pop. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 Thanks for clearing that up Guy! I'm regrettably far away from my collection, making due with an Apple laptop loaded down with music and a few dozen cds. Obis? I used to use these as bookmarks. . .and I don't save them. Ohwell! Quote
brownie Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 Obis? I used to use these as bookmarks. . .and I don't save them. Ohwell! The Obis for these Dinah Washington sets were the regular kind except they covered the whole of the back covers! Can't remember seeing others like these. But I never did a fixation on those artifacts! If they were there, fine. If they were not, just too bad! Quote
kulu se mama Posted June 9, 2006 Author Report Posted June 9, 2006 (edited) All the sets I have were Made in Japan, except volume 4 which bears the 'Made in W. Germany' stamper! i just checked all 7 volumes that i just bought and only the first was manufactured in japan. the other 6 are equally divided between west germany and u.s.a. Tjazz Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 I think I saw this set for alittle over $10/CD. Thought they were overpriced? Worth $11/CD to you? Quote

My vol. I (1956 -1949) copy only has english notes booklet and no lyric booklet. "1987, Manufactured by Nippon Phonogram Co.LTD. Tokyo.", I think I remember I had it new and sealed. I spent years to put together all seven volumes too. Wonderful collection; a kind of artist's creative parabola Quote

I paid varying prices for these volumes over the years. I love these sets. Some more than others of course, but. . . man. . .what a singer! Quote
kulu se mama Posted June 15, 2006 Author Report Posted June 15, 2006 I think I saw this set for alittle over $10/CD. actually on half.com right now they range from $39.99 to $122.99. since they are all 3 disc sets - $10 a disc for all of them is a pretty fair deal. Quote
