RDK
Almost as a lark, i included a FF track on my BFT disc and a lot of guys seemed surprised that they really dug it.
Guest Chaney
Maybe this'll make room for a comparably sized Hi Lo's set?

GA Russell
Maybe this'll make room for a comparably sized Hi Lo's set? For my money The Hi-Los made good music over a longer period of time, but I have a few of their Columbia albums that I do not think are nearly as good as the Four Freshman Capitol 50s albums. I do not think that a comparably sized Mosaic of Hi-Los would be as good as the Freshman box.
JSngry
A Mosaic Select type set of the Hi-Los pre-Columbia material (all of it owned by MCA/Universal/Whoever) would be kickass.

Dave James
I think if you approach this set in the right frame of mind - let's face it folks, cutting edge Coltrane this ain't, it can be quite rewarding. I'm also guessing that, in general, the older you are the more likely you are to enjoy it. These guys can really sing and there's more than a little jazz accompanying them on their travels. I just randomly pulled one of the three jewel boxes off my shelf and found the following players listed: Georgie Auld, Bud Shank, Dave Pell, Bob Cooper, Ted Nash, Al Hendrickson, Howard Roberts, Shelly Manne, Jimmy Rowles, Herbie Harper, Red Mitchell, Pete Candoli...the list goes on and on. Not one of the great Mosaics for sure, but serviceable nonetheless. Up over and out. Edited June 2, 2006 by Dave James

Jim, the new Collectors' Choice catalogue arrived Wednesday, and I see that they are offering The Hi-Lo's - Listen!, "their debut album for Starlite, which appears here on CD for the first time anywhere in the world! Includes June In January, Little White Lies, Fools Rush In, She's Funny That Way and more." I don't have any of those songs. By the way, it's $15.95. LAL
TowerRecords.Com is having a sale - use coupon code 86CNRZEZP879 to get a 20% discount. I applied the coupon to the Freshmen box available (should be a numbered edition) and it seems to work. I didn't press the order button though.
