A beautiful record, Hibbler projects a rare warmth, with nice Gerald Wilson arrangements.

Billy Strayhorn was to be contracted by Frank Sinatra's Reprise label to do the arrangements, but Duke is reported to have protested: You got my singer, and now you want my arranger!

Damn, here's one I'm sure probably NONE of us have ever seen before (other than couw - who posted this in another thread just a couple minutes ago, here: Greatest Finds).

Here's the info on it, from couw's post in the other thread...

A cover for this famous soundtrack I hadn't seen before:

It may just be a sign of my age but I think of this one as being quite common. I remember seeing it around a lot-- even in remainder bins. (And was this music once released in Europe one one side of an Lp with Miles's Elevator to the Gallows music on the other side? Or was that another European jazz score paired with the Miles?)

That Jordan thing was out on Charlie Parker Records, wasn't it? That stuff had a way of popping up and then disappearing, seemingly at will, for many years.

I have an LP reissue of WE INSIST on Amiga (or is it Amigo?), w/a facsimile of the original cover. Is that hte same label that did the Wright thing?

I doubt that. It was not released by Amiga the GDR label AFAIK. This site has a complete listing of Amiga Jazz releases and We Insist is NOT on it.

BTW: this one is:

;)

If is is a GDR Amiga, it should either have Amiga written in the font as depicted on the Wright album above, or have an orange J like this:

The label varied through time, here's an overview pic:

big ones here

John, is this a typo and should read " .... is not on it"???

Jim, what is the number of your issue of the Roach suite?

yes, just edited it.

I had some comment on Bartz on the other thread (Greatest Finds). Apparantly he fell ill and had only just returned to the scene when this recording was made.

That Dolphy cover is off the hook!!

Where'd you find it??

This was released by Pathe-Marconi in France in the early '60s.

Cover by Jean Vern. Hated those releases. Being a young snob, I ignored these releases. Wanted the original Prestige LP. And nothing else. The old snob I have grown into is happy with the decision. Love the Prestige album!
