Rooster_Ties Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 OK, there's a million album covers out there, by thousands of cats, but I'm curious to see some I've never seen before, by some really core jazz artists, you know - the ones that we all think we've already seen everything by. Here's one - yeah, it's a boot, but it's still a cool cover. Plus, there's a little bit of ring-wear visible, so this was a vinyl boot - which makes it way-cooler than some modern CD-boot cover. So, then, the ground rules are that the album cover has to be very cool, and very obscure, but by a well-known leader. (Actual covers from the LP-era are prefered over CD-only releases from the modern age.) For instance, I'm guessing there are some cool Japanese-only alternate covers (for things also released here, but with more familiar covers), that might well qualify for this thread. Put your thinking caps on... Quote
Parkertown Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 They're coming through just fine with my browser. Very cool! Thanks guys. Quote
dsgtrane Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 I can see those. That Blakey is COOL! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 30, 2003 Author Report Posted July 30, 2003 Here's one I'd never seen before... (Sorry, couldn't link to it - had to upload it.) Quote
jazzbo Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 Maybe not so obscure to the old timers like me, but an alternate cove not normally seen. . . . Quote
jazzbo Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 This is the original Japanese cover, that is so very different from the American cd cover! Quote
jazzbo Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 Not lp, but the "Teo Macero Japanese" cd version of the Complete Plugged Nickel cd set, released in Japan several years before the Cuscuna produced American version. . . . Never saw or heard it and wish I had! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 30, 2003 Author Report Posted July 30, 2003 (edited) I have tapes of that Japanese "Complete Plugged Nickel" set (from a guy on the Internet, actually - it was BITNET back in those days - which will tell you how old those tapes are), and I nearly plunked down $250 for one back in the early 90's, before anyone had any idea it would be released in the U.S. -- and I'm DAMN glad I DIDN'T get it, when I had the chance. I used to have that same "Facets" album/cover on vinyl, and come to think of it - I might still have it. Hafta check... Edited July 30, 2003 by Rooster_Ties Quote
jazzbo Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 This is the "RVG living-room version" of the first Cannonball Savoy lp. . . the latest Japanese cd version I know of has this cover now: Quote
dsgtrane Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 Anyone have the Beatles butchered baby dolls one? Been years since I saw that. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 Wow, found this HOT picture of Peggy Lee! OOPS focus Lon, ALBUM COVERS. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 Here's what I was looking for when I found the Lee: Quote
jazzbo Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 Good one! Now, Sharkey is probably not considered a jazz "great" but . . . his Capitol lp covers ARE! Can't yet find an image though, so here's a Roulette (nice lp.) Quote
The Mule Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 (edited) Gotta love the title on this one... ...and this is just plain disturbing... Edited July 30, 2003 by The Mule Quote
jazzbo Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 I looked for this one for some time before the material was put out by Mosaic. Quote
