king ubu Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 Bet they remove the bonus material from the previous reissues. What a pity in case of the Hodges! That Brown album ("Inspired Abandon" - what a great and fitting title!) is terrific! Quote
jazzbo Posted June 7, 2006 Author Report Posted June 7, 2006 Well, the release date has come and gone. . . and they're not yet online. Darn! Did discover I had missed a batch from May though, that included a Griff 'n Lock! Quote

felser Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 The Verve site says 6/13 now on these. I've thus far resisted the entire digital download world, but may have to start to get the Shepp, which I had my heart set on. How much does it cost per album, and how do you do it? Sorry to ask such elementary questions so late in the game. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 12, 2006 Author Report Posted June 12, 2006 These usually are a few dollar cheaper the first few weeks of release so the Shepp may be about 7 bucks or 8 bucks, with a normal price of 10 bucks. If you don't have a Mac, you'll probably have to download iTunes, and from there you can store it as a download and can burn (I believe, I have a Mac iBook and a MacBook of my wife's now and a shared iMac, not sure how iTunes behaves on a PC) from the download. RDK Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Pricing on iTunes is sometimes quite odd. They have Sun Ra's Outer Spaceways Incorporated available... for $35.99! Quote

It seems as though not all of those downloads are iTunes only. The ones that don't say "iTunes exclusive" are available from Rhapsody.com and Real Networks. In fact, after seeing the mention of the Griff-Lock date, I went to the Verve Interactive site to see exactly what was up and available. I spotted the Ben Webster Meets Don Byas among others, so I clicked on the download button. Then a weird thing happened: I picked Rhapsody.com, downloaded their player, and the next thing I knew, the entire album started playing. NO indication of how to purchase and download, the first tune just started playing. Well, I have Goldwave audio software and figured, what the hell, opened up a new file and started recording the download. How can they set up a system where people can simply record, live, the music they want, and not even tell them how to purchase the music? Bottom line: For those who don't "upgrade" their account to "unlimited", Rhapsody allows 25 free plays per month. Given the lesser quality of these downloads, I have no problem recording what they will allow me to play, month by month. If they won't tell you how to buy it, can anyone blame me for recording what they'll stream? Quote
jazzbo Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 Yes, there are some that are available from Rhapsody and Real Player, and some Real Player only, maybe some Rhapsody only. Realplayer doesn't work for me on my Macs. Rhapsody does, yes. . . . I think they must be aware of the free download thang on iTunes. . . . Quote
jazzbo Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 Well it's the thirteenth. . . . But still not available. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 Okay, they have been putting them up over the last hour, they all seem to be up now. I haven't yet seen the price for the Shepp, so far I've bought the Sanders and one of the Coltranes, the Sanders was 6.99, the Lord of Lords was 9.99. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 (edited) Okay, "For Losers" is 9.99. "Huntington Ashram Monastery" is 5.99. Go figureth! Edited June 13, 2006 by jazzbo Quote
jazzbo Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 "Magic of Juju" is 9.99. "World Galaxy" is 9.99 Quote
RDK Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Hey Lon - is there a section on iTunes where you can see all the Verve Vault titles in one place or do you have to search by artist? I really hate the way iTunes navigates... Quote
jazzbo Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 (edited) Ray, not really, but try this: http://www.vervemusicgroup.com/series.aspx...ob=bf&src=vault You can find them all, and you can open each page up individually and go to iTunes from the page for the title.
