Christiern Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 You have to hand it to Steve Jobs, he knows how to attract attention to Apple. The new NYC store opens at 6 PM this evening, it is on Fifth Ave. between 58th and 59th Street--a fantastic location--and it will be open 24/7/365. It's subterranean, but you can't miss it--here's a photo of the entrance, a 3-story high glass cube. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 and not only that ... how they gonna keep out all the mimes? Quote

Jim R Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 I think the big question here is... can they throw stones in there or not? Quote
Big Al Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 (edited) This may seem kinda redundant, but where is the inventory? The cash registers? The employees???? Never mind. Missed the word "subterranean." Go back to what you were doing. Edited May 19, 2006 by Big Al Quote
7/4 Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 where are the bathrooms??? It's subterranean. They're in the basement. Quote
Aggie87 Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 (edited) sub·ter·ra·ne·an - adj. - Situated or operating beneath the earth's surface; underground. I wouldn't necessarily say it's original, but it's cool. Reminds me of the entrance to the Louvre: Also kinda reminds me of those Smart Car towers that are scattered about Europe: Edited May 19, 2006 by Aggie87 Quote
Christiern Posted May 19, 2006 Author Report Posted May 19, 2006 Mac people do not have a need for bathrooms, Greg. You just click on the toilet icon.* *OS X 10.4.2 or later Quote

Jim R Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 Yeah, iToilet is one of my favorite new Dashboard widgets. Be warned, though- there's a software bug which prevents the valve from closing every time, and you have to jiggle the handle. Version 1.0.2 will fix it, but you've gotta stay home between 8 am and 5 pm on the day of the repair. Quote

Christiern Posted May 20, 2006 Author Report Posted May 20, 2006 It's also impressive from down there... See for yourself. Quote
J Larsen Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 I walked by tonight after I got out of work (around 10PM). There was what looked like a four to five hour wait just to get into the store. Even worse than the Union Square Trader Joe's. The entrance is even more impressive in person than in the pictures. Quote
Big Al Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 It's also impressive from down there... See for yourself. They have a bar down there? Niiiiiiice!!! Quote
Big Wheel Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 It's also impressive from down there... See for yourself. They have a bar down there? Niiiiiiice!!! I might be wrong, but if that store is anything like the SF store, the "Genius Bar" only serves beverages of the liquid crystal variety. I think it's basically a place where you can play with gadgets they've set up along the bar. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 Looks like a very cool place. The MacBooks released a few days ago also look very cool. We may be picking one up for my wife this weekend; here in hotel rooms we're fighting over my iBook constantly, we really need another computer! Quote
Christiern Posted May 20, 2006 Author Report Posted May 20, 2006 I dropped by the store this morning to buy an Airport Express. Here are some pictures I took... Notice the round elevator. and walking down Central Park South, I snapped this one ... Quote
Christiern Posted May 20, 2006 Author Report Posted May 20, 2006 Here's a closer look at the bridge--the amazing thing is that this is only a block away from the Apple store. New York is a great city. To get back on topic, here are more people descending into and surfacing from the new shrine... Quote
