Rooster_Ties Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 (edited) This is the official Organissimo "Historic-Architecture" thread. There's a ton of cool stuff out there on the web, and in real life too (especially!!!) -- and I'm betting I'm not the only historic architecture buff in this crowd. I'll post some of my favorites in the coming hours and days, but here are a few random ones that I just stumbled on today... Merchant's Bank of Winona (1911) Winona, Minnesota Woodbury County Courthouse (the largest 'Prairie Style' building in the world) Sioux City, Iowa Bloom High School, Illinois Hecht Company warehouse, Washington D.C. Apartment building, Havana, Cuba OK, enough for now. I'll post more later. What are your favorite works of Architecture??? Particularly those that are really unique in some aesthetic way. The Mule Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 (edited) Bloom High School!!!!! It's in Chicago Heights, Illinois. My home town. I did not, however, go to Bloom (although many of my friends did). Our neighborhood was districted for a different high school which was much better educationally, but much more drab architecturally. Haven't seen that building in 20 years...where did you find the picture? My 2 cents: The Tribune Tower, Chicago, Illinois Across the street is The Wrigley Building Edited July 29, 2003 by The Mule Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 29, 2003 Author Report Posted July 29, 2003 Bloom High School!!!!! It's in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Haven't seen that building in 20 years...where did you find the picture? http://www.decopix.com I wasn't looking for it specifically. Just a general "Art Deco Architecture" site, with a bunch of cool pictures. I liked the picture of Bloom High School, and that's the only reason I posted it here (and thanks for mentioning where it is, in Chicago Heights, as the sit didn't give a specific city). Quote

J Larsen Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Unfortunately, this is the best photo I can find on the web of what I believe to be the world's coolest gas station: Quote
J Larsen Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 For two years, my north-facing living room windows had spectacular views of this building, which was directly across the street. From the picture, you can't really tell how large this building is. It is the third-largest church in the world. The picture is of the west side of the cathedral. My view was of the south side, but I haven't been able to find a picture from that perspective yet. Quote
J Larsen Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Is it too cliched to mention this home? Quote
