The Rep Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 I have a track on a compilation, a song writen by Mark Murphy and Jimmy Deuchar. It is also performed by them. It was recorded on December 18th 1967 and was recorded in Cologne Germany. The band was made up of the following musicians - Jimmy Deuchar, Ake Persson, Derek Humble, Ronnie Scott, Sahib Shihab, Francy Boland, Jimmy Woods and Kenny Clarke. My questians are the original title of this album, has it ever been re-issued or been incorporated into a cd. Cheers. Quote
robviti Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 (edited) follow this link to the amg listing for murphy's album midnight mood. this 1967 recording appears to have been reissued as an import in 1995. there are used copies available from some amazon marketplace sellers for under $9 here: amazon Edited May 12, 2006 by jazzshrink Quote
BFrank Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Worth tracking down. The whole album is good and you can't get any better than the Clarke-Boland Big Band members joining in. Quote

If you want to hear this band in same or even better mood, without the singer, you can try Sahib Shihab's "And All Those Cats" (Rearward/Schema cd 1997); Johnny Griffin &Clarke Boland Group "Griff'n'Bags" (Rearward/Schema cd 1977); Kenny Clarke- Francy Boland "The Golden Eight" (Blue Note 1961); The Kenny Clarke, Francy Boland Big Band "Two Originals" (MPS cd 1994); "All Smiles" and More Smiles" (MPS cds 2004). jazzbo Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Dusty Groove has two versions of Midnight Mood available on cd, one in jewel case and one lp facimile, with a ten dollar difference in price between them! Quote

jazzbo Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 (edited) I'm away from my collection right now, but I believe that the jewel case version may be from 2004 or 2005. . . I bought a copy a year or so ago and it was newer than 1999, part of the batch of MPS sides reissued like November Girl, More Smiles, Felini. . . Incredibly good sound. I could be wrong. If it is from 1999 there certainly is no reason to spring for the Japanese bucks for sonic reasons, only if you have an object worship fetish for lp facimiles! Edited June 13, 2006 by jazzbo Quote
The Rep Posted June 16, 2006 Author Report Posted June 16, 2006 The cd I just bought came straight from Germany, its on MPS and was said when I ordered it to be Sep 2005 and cheap. Quote
