Soul Stream Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 I've got an only existing copy of music on a CD-R...I put it in my computer to transfer to iTunes and left the room. Somehow, the CD wouldn't transfer but kept turning and turning for an hour! Now, when I try to play it...my 2 different CD players say "no disk."!!!! Upon looking at the surface of the dist it looks like a thousand tiny little scratches made a circle around the inner ring of the CD. Is there any saving this thing. I'm gonna be crushed if I lose this music as there's no other copy existing in the world, it's be gone for good. Quote
Noj Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 You can put it through one of those scratch repair devices so long as the layer which has the information burned on it has not been damaged. Quote

wesbed Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 You can try running some CD recovery software such as this: http://www.cdroller.com/ Download the trial version for free. Then test to learn if the program can recover anything worth keeping from the damaged CD. Quote
Noj Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 I have some contraption called "Dr. Scratch" which I'm sure wasn't more than $20. Seems to work for light abrasions, but your disc's underside won't look so shiny and pretty after using it. Quote
gdogus Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 An alternative is to try using Rain-X (the glass treatment stuff): A friend told me about this years ago, and it's actually saved some scratched CDs for me. Just follow the instructions, as if you were rain proofing your windshield. Not kidding. Quote

wesbed Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 I lost a CD disk's worth of photos once upon a time. The CD Roller software recovered all the pictures except one. I felt like I got off cheap to have all my pictures returned to me for only $29.00. I'm glad it worked for you. Quote

Congratulations, but now I think you're obligated to tell us just what unique music was on this disc. Seriously, I hope you burn a backup or two if its worth that much to you. Quote
bertrand Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Don't hold off on that rare John Patton! Bertrand. Quote
Soul Stream Posted May 9, 2006 Author Report Posted May 9, 2006 ....seriously...it was just an old Boston album... Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Ah, I have a copy of that. "Boston Plays The Music of Big John Patton." The record company shelved it, after spending an unheard of (at that time) $2million to produce it. Scandelous!!! Quote
Spontooneous Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Patton, Scholz and Dixon were the funkiest rhythm section ever. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Patton, Scholz and Dixon were the funkiest rhythm section ever. You're sick Joe. Just plain sick. Quote
Soul Stream Posted May 9, 2006 Author Report Posted May 9, 2006 Patton, Scholz and Dixon were the funkiest rhythm section ever. I'd actually like to hear THAT record! Quote
md655321 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Congratulations, but now I think you're obligated to tell us just what unique music was on this disc. I heard it was a CD-R of Sangrey sitting in with Organissimo. Produced by Chuck Nessa. Quote
Shawn Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 I can see it now...Patton playing this massive pipe organ on stage...thousands of fans screaming...I wonder how a medley of Smokin' and The Yodel would work? Quote
Parkertown Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 featuring Tom Scholtz on "special-effects" organ... Quote
GregN Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 Patton, Scholz and Dixon were the funkiest rhythm section ever. I'd actually like to hear THAT record! ME TOO! Quote
