Soul Stream Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 Anybody got one for sale or a line on one. Quote
mikeweil Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 Sorry, don't have a spare copy, but I'd say go for the CD, which has much better sound (I had both, but sold the LP after listening to the CD). Quote
sidewinder Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 The CD definitely sounds better than the 'Rainbow Series' LP. Not one of the greatest recordings sound quality wise , I'm afraid, in either version. The music though is - very much in a 'Sonny's Dream - Birth of the New Cool' vein. Quote

Are you talking the original LP or the Connoisseur LP? I had the original LP and I agree that the CD sounds much better. However, I read somewhere that the Connoisseur LP sounds good and I've been looking for a copy for quite a while to see if this is true. You can save me further searching if you're saying it's not worth it. Kevin Quote
jazzhound Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 rainbow lp sounds great. much better than cd. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 (edited) rainbow lp sounds great. much better than cd. The rainbow LP has a messed up soundstage... totally whacked stereo image. The fullness of the arrangements did not come through well on this LP at all. The CD brings this large ensemble into the light. The big brass fills are really fills, not just background noise. It's a much more enjoyable session on CD. Edited May 8, 2006 by Kevin Bresnahan Quote

I'd forgotten that I have a copy of the 'Wally' Conn LP in my racks (amazing how these things get lost/forgotten about) so will retrieve it later today and check out the sound. I'd love to hear the Japanese issue King LP of this session (probably definitive). Quote

sjarrell Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 My cd copy, which I bought from Moose, has green marker around the edges and is consequently the best sounding cd I own. Quote
