White Lightning Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Hi, I need your (collective) help: I have avery nice compilation on the British "Camden" label, titled: On The Way Up: The RCA Sessions 1965-1967 featuring Wild Bill Davis But no other discographical details - Dates, musicians etc. I do hear a lot of Lawrence Brown there (and possibly another bone player on some tracks?), but I can't recognize the guitarist(s) Can someone help me with some discographical info? The track list is: 1. On the way up 2. Take 'em off, take 'em off 3. The Jeep is jumping 4. Monkey on the limb 5. C-jam blues 6. On green dolphin street 7. Con soul and sax 8. For jammers only 9. No one 10. Drop me off in Harlem 11. Johnny come lately 12. Big boy blues 13. Sir John 14. A tiny bit of blues 15. Lil' darlin' 16. I'm beginning to see the light 17. Sophisticated lady 18. The very thought of you Thanks!! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 This compilation is a messy combination of a Hodges disc originally called "Triple Play" and a Davis disc called "Con Soul & Sax". The Davis date includeds Dickie Thompson/Kenny Burrell on g, Milt Hinton/George Duvivier on b, and Osie Johnson on drums. The Hodges record came from 3 different dates with 3 different trombone players - Brown, Buster Cooper and Benny Powell. Brown plays on tracks 1, 8 and 13. Quote
