(BB) Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I recently picked up Charles Mingus – Mingus. It is a stereo pressing from 1985 made in Italy. The music is everything I was expecting and more, but the record has a low level hiss that is constant and omnipresent. Is this just the case on my low-budget re-issue, or do they all sound like this? Has anyone heard the Pure Pleasure Records pressing? Thanks, Bill Quote
David Williams Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 The Pure Pleasure pressing of Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus is superb - very quiet, with sound much better than my French LP, which was better than the UK CD. Pricey, but worth it for a favourite. It's mono, not stereo as described on the sleeve - apparently they found the stereo tapes were too poor after they'd prionted the sleeves. Quote
(BB) Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 Thanks, I will need to put that on my ever expanding upgrade list. Bill Quote
brownie Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Hell, I'll keep my Candid mono original! That's pure pleasure to me Quote
(BB) Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 (edited) If it were an option, sure. But $30 vs. and still going... At that price $30.00 is the purest pleasure I can afford. Bill Edited April 28, 2006 by (BB) Quote
