David Ayers Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 (edited) Complete Verve Billie Holiday at £33.97 here, also the Verve Studio Masters at £24.97. Also worth checking Ella and Louis, and Ella's Gershwin and Ellington Songbooks, and lower than usual prices on Coltrane Complete VV and Complete Impulse. As well as the outright bargains on Basie and Farlow Mosaics (£26.97) I mentioned elsewhere. These prices include 17.5% sales tax which is not payable for buyers outside EU, and postage is per item not per disk so works out well on box sets (I *think*). Those prices will end VERY SOON. Edit: It's all here on this page: bargain boxes Edited April 24, 2006 by David Ayers Quote
king ubu Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 Just ordered the Ella & Louis set... thanks! The Miles Jack Johnson is also pretty cheap (long box version, I guess, didn't check) Quote
Claude Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 For those interested in classical, Amazon.co.uk also currently has great deals (50% off) on full price box sets from Universal Classics: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/bro...5177520-7024644 Quote
David Ayers Posted April 25, 2006 Author Report Posted April 25, 2006 (edited) Good call, Claude. My DFD Schubert Lieder arrived just now - £27 including shipping, even less than the current price. This is the same Universal sale I mentioned when it began. Europadisc closed their version of this sale yesterday, MDT close today, so my guess is that amazon will not be too far behind. I'd certainly say anyone on the fence over Basie (at £26.97) should JUMP... Edited to add that the Fischer Dieskau Schubert is the compact edition WITH complete texts and translations into English, plus a mix of translations and paraphrases in French. So you are sorted for life with this set, even if all you want to begin with are the three major cycles. Edited April 25, 2006 by David Ayers Quote
David Ayers Posted April 25, 2006 Author Report Posted April 25, 2006 Here is the MDT version, for reference - ending today. Shipping issues are different with MDT, and jazz is not included. Quote
Pete B Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Thanks for the heads up David. I jumped off the Basie fence - I can't imagine a better price. Quote
tjobbe Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 (edited) thanks David for the heads-up ! The Ella's are tempting.... Cheers, Tjobbe EDIT: The Nina Simone on Verve/Phillips for 15£ might be as a great deal... EDIT2: haven't seen that before but Amazon.uk.co properly calculates the slightly lower german VAT rates Thx ! Edited April 25, 2006 by tjobbe Quote
gnhrtg Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Thanks David, just ordered the Basie and Jack Johnson boxes. Quote

bluesbro Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 I ordered the Ella and Louis and the Ella -Ellington songbook for roughly 36 bucks shipped, is a steal. Quote
White Lightning Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Thanks David. Just ordered the Basie set. Same here. Thanx! Quote
sidewinder Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Antonio Carlos Jobim - The Man from Ipanema for 14£ Cheers, Tjobbe That one is fantastic. Highly recommended at the price ! Quote
Dave James Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 (edited) Moi aussi on the Basie. I already have the two Roulette Mosaics, but at this price, I couldn't pass it up. The fact that our own Chris Albertson penned the liner notes only makes it that much better. Up over and out. Edited April 25, 2006 by Dave James Quote
tjobbe Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Antonio Carlos Jobim - The Man from Ipanema for 14£ Cheers, Tjobbe That one is fantastic. Highly recommended at the price ! I feared that ...and now those bastards just reduce the price for the Getz again to below 9 Pounds....they want me to exeed my Credit Card limit Cheers, Tjobbe P.S. I believe there is some truth behind the Verve C.E.O. Thread... Quote
sidewinder Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 (edited) While you are assaulting your credit card on amazon.co.uk, don't forget the various Rhapsody Films DVD releases that can be had at their market place for £7.99, a saving of £9 each. Edited April 25, 2006 by sidewinder Quote
ASNL77 Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 (edited) just for completeness: there are two more Verve box set's (but hidden somehow) Stan Getz - The Bossa Nova Years: The Girl From Ipanema for 11£ Antonio Carlos Jobim - The Man from Ipanema for 14£ Cheers, Tjobbe Ordered both! ASNL77 Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 The Getz is £8.96 and availble in 4-6 weeks? Gone? Very likely. There was only one left when I placed my order. Quote
tonym Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Aaaarghhhh......................................... Ella & Duke or Jobim? I don't normally like 'selections' so I'm tempted by the Ella but the Jobim will be soooo beautiful.............. Quote
JohnJ Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 That really is a great price on the Getz box. It is now showing 1-2 weeks availability so maybe o.k. Also the Sinatra Platinum Collection, a 3CD Capitol best of set, is available for the amazingly low price of 0.97 pounds. Definitely a bargain. Quote
tjobbe Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 sorry to put some "non Jazz" on the board here but being an Amazon UK costumer now, they send me some link to the brand new Moody Blues SA-CD's where at least I'm interested in that Threshold of a dream. The two single SA-CD's are at 9 and the three double SA-CD's are at 11£....maybe some is interested in those as well when ordering some of the boxes. Cheers, Tjobbe Quote
