I am working on an Osby discography and there are a few recordings featuring Osby that are not in my collection and I can not locate a reliable source for the necessary session information. If anyone has any of the recordings below in their collection and would be willing to email me scans of the necessary discographical information from the CD booklets I would be be very appreciative.

Greg Osby has a thread and occasionally posts and responds to questions on allaboutjazz.com.

I know. I am actually compiling the discography with Osby's consent and have been communicating with him directly.

It took me significantly longer than I originally planned, but the first draft of the Osby discography is now available on the Jazz Discography website. There are still some edits that will likely be made in the next few days, but all of the basic information is there. As always, I would appreciate hearing from anyone with any additions, corrections, etc.

Thank you John. I did eventually locate info for all of the titles that are not in my collection.

I believe Matt Brewer is currently playing bass with Greg.. Matt's father Paul, a fine trombonist, occasionally comes out to sit in with organissimo..

Brewer was the bassist on Osby's last leader-date, "Channel Three", which is a trio recording with Tain Watts.

I've seen Osby at least once -- and maybe twice with Matt (both times here in Kansas City). This was back when Jason Moran was still in the band -- so judging from the discography, that would have been back in '03.

Congrats, Ronald!

I must have missed this thread when it was up and I guess there's no need for help by now! The only thing I might have is a setlist for the Osby/New Connexion concert from Schaffhausen, but I do remember I wasn't able to match the names with the actual music (I have four tracks and five titles or something, but the radio chaps said it was the complete concert, so most likely one track is a medley, but since these are all unknown tunes to me, I can't really tell...)

There doesn't seem to be a general Osby thread, so I guess I'll ask here.

Has anyone heard the Project Z recording, "Abstract Logix"? It's a Jimmy Herring (Allman Bros & now Widespread Panic) rock/jazz improv thing apparently, and I'm curious about Osby's contributions to it. Is it worth checking out?

Ronald, with this link you'll find the info about the original release of "Movies, Too" - since it's a 1988 recording I assume the CD (ENJ-5079-2) was the original release, but possibly there also was an LP of it.

The Blue Moon CD issue you list, is that the spanish Blue Moon label, from the Freshsound family of labels?

Flurin - thank you for the help, but there is no link.

The info on Movies Too is what was provided by Aggie87 on this thread. I will certainly add the info on the original release in the first update, which I will probably start working on soon since I have finished the first draft of a Mark Turner discography.
