The Kings hired Eric Musselman today. I'm psyched for the guy -- he really managed to turn around the Warriors from a 20 win team to a 38 win team. (No joke.) Unfortunately his intense style rubs off poorly on players. Hopefully he won't have the same difficulties in Sac.

Man, I am out of the loop, I didn't even realize that Rick Adelman was out of Sacramento.

Question: why don't coaches use the hack-a-Shaq or hack-a-Ben strategy more often? If I was a coach I would use them ALL THE TIME.

Guy

This strategy is one of the things that disgusts me about the modern NBA. If the best you can do is just go in and blatantly foul your opponent, then frankly you deserve to lose the game. When this started becoming common, you saw players sort of hanging their heads when following coach's orders, but now it's just part of the game. It drags things out and makes it an ugly game. I would definitely support a rule change to eliminate this -- probably giving the ball back to the fouled team in the last thirty seconds of a game when the foul is clearly intentional and not done in the course of defending a shot.

I firmly believe a coach should do whatever is necessary to win, as long as its within the rules. I have no problem with the hack strategy.

However, it usually doesnt work. You figure a good team shoots 50%, which mean they would average a point per possession, right? Well fouling Shaq everytime is no better because he hit over 50% usually. Take into account no more forcing turnovers, and its really not a good strategy. However, when Ben shoots 22% in the playoffs, hacking him is a great idea. Leaving him in to be hacked, (FLIP!) is not.

Also, within the last two mintues of the game and off the ball foul is one FT and retaining possession. So their actually is rule that makes hacking moot in the last couple minutes.

Congrats Mavs!

As much as it sucks to see the Pistons lose, im sure being a Miami or Dallas fan for the last two decades has been alot worse.

You got THAT right! This erases the bad taste from a few years back against the Spurs. Just one more mountain to climb: Mt. Shaq! And make no mistake, the Mavs have their work cut out for them. For my money, Shaq is STILL one of the greatest players out there right now!

Plus, he's just so damn likable! How can you NOT root for the guy? :)

SS1,

Here's my second round point total: 46 points, for a total so far of 98 points.

Another twenty points from this round, so my total for the playoffs will be 118 points because I picked Detroit to win the Championship.

I wish Dallas and Phoenix would play some D - the winner is going to need to be able to do that to compete in the Finals, regardless of opponent.

Doubts about Dallas's ability to play D should be put to rest after last night's 1st half.

I'm picking the Mavs to win this series in 6.5 .
