Way to show perseverence and determination, Mavs. I was impressed by how well they took over in the second half, epsecially the 4th quarter.

Sure, we all know the ref blew that shot clock call, but that was the least of the Suns worries. Missed clutch shots and missed rebounds were. They just got whooped.

Yup, they won despite their impatience early on. When the Mavs play THEIR game, as opposed to the Suns or anyone else's, they're damn-near unstoppable.

I'd love to see a Mavs-Pistons final!

Soooo Bright Moments,

which team exactly are YOU for. You never seem to state you are for the Heat, although from your geographical location underneath your Avatar, it would seem that way???

It sure helps when you make it to the line more than double your opponent.

Looks like breathing near a heat player is now a foul.

Usually, game 5 would be a mortal lock for the pistons, but who knows with Flip running things.

Bring back Larry Brown!

Series is over. No way Miami is going to lose three in a row.

--Riley completely outcoached Flip.

--Wade is even better than last year. He's proving to be one of the top 5 players in the league.

--Miami seems to have a deeper, more productive bench. Zo is a monster under the board. Payton gives quality minutes. Haslem is playing well.

--Detroit has stagnated. They are not a better team than last year.

--Sheed is imploding emotionally. In retrospect, it's amazing that his emotional imbalance never really hurt the Pistons in the past. He's returning true to form.

--Shaq seems to be in better shape.

--Miami really turned it on over the second half of the season, while the Pistons played like they were bored.

Miami is simply the better team this year.

NO, Miami is NOT the better team. The Pistons are shooting themselves in the foot. Surely you don't believe Dallas is better than the Spurs. They shot themselves in the foot also, especially Ginobli, remember.

Anyway, I agree the Pistons stunk if up tonight. Like I said before, there is trouble in the lockeroom. :(

Surely I believe that Dallas is a better team than the Spurs. The bench, the coaching, the hustle, the depth, etc contributes to that fact. Not by a huge margin, but they are - IMHO - a better team.

I wonder how long it will take for naysayers to come around and admit that this Mavs team is a well rounded, soundly coached team - one that can adjust and play in many different styles.

Was the Spurs/Mavs series close? Of course. This match was unbelievable.

Uh, yeah I do. To say that Ginobli was the ONLY reason the Spurs lost is to not only take away from the Mavs fantastic performance, but also to take away from the stellar performance of the Spurs.

If ever there was a matchup between equal superpowers, that Mavs-Spurs series was it! But, the Mavs had and have the edge, and that's why they are where they are now.

Hey slide advantage, folks will never come around to the Mavs, no matter what. It will always be a case of, "Well, they won because of Ginobli's mistake, or Raja's injury, blah blah blah blah." Don't know why there's all this hate for the Mavs (Cuban, notwithstanding), but even if they do go all the way, don't expect the naysayers to shut up anytime soon. That'd be like expecting a Red Sox fan to admit that the Yankees have been a better team all this time.

I had to shake my head in wonder/disgust when I heard Ben Wallace complaining about Flip Saunders after game 3. If I played 34 minutes, scored 2 points, went 2 for 10 from the line, only collected 6 rebounds, and gave up 27 points (11 for 15 from the field) to Shaq, I think that I'd be looking in the mirror for a long time before I complained publicly about my coach.

As for the other Wallace and his antics - nothing said is enough said.

Riles is outcoaching Flip big time. Flash is killin' the Pistons, he shot 75% the last two games!

The Pistons appear to be imploding, they're scoring an astounding 24 points less in the last nine playoff games than they did in the preceding playoff games. A few games ago I wouldn't have doubted the Pistons' ability to right the ship, but man are they playing bad! Where's the D?

I've started rooting for the Suns, a sure way to make them lose. Muwahahahaha!

Don't know why you would shake your head in wonder/disgust about Ben. Ben did not "all of a sudden" become a bad player. Who do you know that can even attempt to guard Shaq a whole game by himself??? There is something drastically wrong with the Pistons as a whole and Flip Saunders has changed something sutle enough to affect their whole game. Don't know for sure but he seems to have lost the confidence of the team and they are "consciously or unconsciously" quitting on the coach. And like I said before, those trades earlier in the year affected their chemistry.

Something happened to the Pistons when Larry Brown became a lame duck coach last year. They have not been the same. Tried to get their swagger back during the regular season but the playoffs have been disastrous. I predict multiple changes at end of playoffs and before next season starts.

I think the Mavs should beat Phoenix. Not sure about in how many games, though. Could be as little as 5.

The Suns are the type of team the Mavs used to be until Avery got hold of them an taught them how to really play the game. Thing is, it's a team that hasn't fully internalized those lessons, and it's a team that will still occasionally lapse int their old ways. If they do that for too long in any one game, they'll lose that game. And if they do that for too long in too many games, they'll lose the series. Phoenix's shooters can and will take you out in a big hurry, and they can be counted on for at least one hot run per game. And Steve Nash. god blees him, is a freak. :g

So yeah, the Mavs should beat Phoenix, and they should beat either Miami or Detroit. But it's far from a given. And until they do, some skepticism is indeed warranted. They've got to prove to everybody (especially themselves) that they have what it takes to maintain that championship focus. Hopefully the series against the Spurs was the big turning point that all of us Mavs fans hope it is. Only one way to find out.

All I can say is this - there is nobody else I'd want coaching this team at this time than Avery Johnson. That's one helluva man.
