B. Goren. Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Among all Candid releases, this is one of my favorites. I can imagine I am not the only fan of this album. What an impressive list of musicians: Mingus, Eldridge, Dolphy, Knepper, Flanagan, Max Roach, Booker little, Jo Jones and many others. I recently found myself pull it out of the shelf more and more. I agree with Nat Hentoff who wrote the liner notes: "The Newport rebellion is over, but its cracking spirit was caught alive here." Quote
jazzbo Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Well I'm certainly a fan of the album, though I wouldn't call it my favorite Candid. Really fun set. Love how Roy is set up and then delivers! Quote
kh1958 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 If only the actual festival has been recorded... Quote
jazzbo Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 I'm with you there. The photos I've seen make me really want to hear! Quote
mikeweil Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 If they only would reissue all takes on one disc in session order (like in the Mingus Mosaic box) ...... but then the 3 tracks without Roy would become homeless. Wish they had recorded more, and yes, filmed the festival. The Pee Wee Russell session with Coleman Hawkins is kind of a sybling to this one, to me at least. Quote
Jazztropic Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 Is this the same material that is on the Mingus Mosaic set Candid Sessions? Quote
