Late Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Could all of Jaspar's 50's work under the BMG umbrella fit onto three discs? As Mosaic now seems to be licensing BMG material, I wonder if this type of set could actually happen. I have most of Jaspar's Vogue stuff already, but I'd probably re-buy for a set like this. What exactly could/would be on it? Quote
tranemonk Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Don't know... but I'd buy this one.... !!! His work on the JJ set is one of my highlights.... Daniel A Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 I'm sure Brownie or someone else will be able to submit an accurate answer to your question. I can't help you, but I would buy such a set instantly. Jaspar really deserves a dedicated boxed reissue of some sort! king ubu Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 Well, there have been three pretty lengthy Jaspar discs in the "Original Vogue Masters" series, all good. If there's nothing else (I don't know, and Brownie is on vacation, I think), it would fit, but somehow I think it's rather unlikely to happen, as most of those interested in Jaspar by now probably have those Vogue discs... would be a nice set, though, I'm sure about that! mikeweil Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 There was a box of 3 LPs and 1 EP on Fresh Sound in 1988 with his complete French Columbia and Barclay recordings - another nice set. The sessions with Tommy Flanagan, Eddie Costa, Barry Galbraith, Milt Hinton,Nabil Totah, Osie Johnson, and Elvin Jones from 1956 are my very favorite Jaspar! Quote
Bluerein Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 And there's the RCA/Italy cd of Jaspar with Thomas. Reissued in the RCA GOld series. Quote
Late Posted April 11, 2006 Author Report Posted April 11, 2006 I thought I had all of Jaspar's work on Vogue — and then I learned he'd recorded some sessions with David Amram (which BMG France have recently released). Anyone have that disc and care to comment? I had BMG France's "Original Vogue Masters" Jaspar/Renaud disc, but I ended up selling it when I came across the Japanese edition(s). Despite strictly following the original 10" album length (usually somewhere around 23 minutes), the Japanese editions sound considerably better to my ears. They also come in mini-LP format (if you're into that) and with original cover art (which is often quite striking). About six years ago, Tower online was unloading these Vogue mini-LP's for $9.99. I went bonkers and picked up the Martial Solals (only Vol.s 1&2 were available), the Al Haig, Don Byas, Henri Renauds, four Jaspars, and one Roy Haynes. I missed the Wade Legge, though! Quote
jazzbo Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 The Jaspar/Amram sides are as good as you think they would be! Quote
