vibes Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 Listened to all of "Destination Out" while trying to get some studying done. That wasn't working (I'd rather listen to Jackie than study ) , so I'm going to have to listen to some more Jackie when I'm done with studying for the weekend. Quote
Big Al Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 Jackie's performance on the "One Night with Blue Note" DVD. Quote

Lazaro Vega Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 Ditto "Shades of Red" and "Let Freedom Ring," as well as "Demon's Dance" and "Old and New Gospel," plus the Birdology Tribute to Charlie Parker with J Mac, Johnny Griffin and Cecil Payne on saxophones, Duke Jordan, piano, Roy Haynes, drums, amongst others. And "Donna" with Miles Davis on Blue Note. Quote
Larry Kart Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 "Hip Strut" from "New Soil." The first time I heard it (when it came out), it felt like his life had been at stake there and this was a record of how he had prevailed. Also two earlier tracks, "Help" and "Beau Jack" from "Jackie McLean and Co.," that have a similar "at stake" feeling, though the outcome then seemed likely to be dire. Quote

Soul Stream Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 I've been spinning 'Consequence". Maybe my favorite McLean actually. Him and Lee Morgan, Smilin' Billy, Harold Maeburn....they're soooooo burning on this recording. Quote
Kreilly Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 (edited) I've been spinning 'Consequence". Maybe my favorite McLean actually. Him and Lee Morgan, Smilin' Billy, Harold Maeburn....they're soooooo burning on this recording. I'll have to give this one another listen. I prefer his more inside out stuff. I read somewhere that Consequence was not released because Alfred Lion wanted Jackie to make more of the avant leaning stuff. Listened to New Soil, Right Now and Destination Out yesterday. Went to see Sonny Simmons last night and they were playing Action at the venue. Just put on New and Old Gospel. Kevin Edited April 2, 2006 by Kreilly Quote
