Adam Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 Mnay moons ago I suggested to TomatBlueNote that he could essentially redo "The Connection" for BN, with Redd, McLean taking songs from that, and other songs. He wrote back "interesting idea" and that he woudl mention it to Michael, but nothing ever came of it. Freddie Redd is definitely around and playing, but never is well off. Quote

I'll dig around and see if I can find the allusion to this session. This is probably what you're referring to: From David H. Rosenthal 'Hard Bop' Oxford University Press 1992. Quote from McLean: "The first record I made was not with Miles. I made a rhythm-and-blues piece with Charlie Singleton's band called 'Camel Walkin' where I played baritone sax, no solo." If Bird had been taking part in the session, I am sure McLean would have mentioned this! Jackie gleefully played me this track at his house a few years ago. Never mentioned anything about Bird playing on it. Quote

This is one of the most depressing things I've red in a while. Every time I hear about something like this happening with regard to an artisan of this country's sole original art form, I just get pissed. Problem is, I have no idea what to do, what I can or could do, other than buy the music, go to the gigs, spread the word. Bertrand, I hope your plan works out, and like others here, am happy to help to the extent I can. Quote
