catesta
Man, this sucks. One of my all time favorites and one of the coolest dudes in a cowboy hat. R.I.P., Buck
Neal Pomea
Don Rich and Buck Owens, together again. One of the best collaborations in country music history. Thank you, Buckaroo!!

Alexander
I was in the Post Office earlier today, and I noticed that the radio was playing "Act Naturally." I remember wondering if Buck Owens had died, since you so seldom hear him on the radio (even country radio) anymore. I'm sad to hear that this is the case. He was one of the greats of his generation... It's kind of sad that he's being remembered primarily as the co-host of "Hee Haw."
chris olivarez
Back in the late 70's I was working in the radio traffic department of a rival country station in Phoenixand Buck Owens was considered the enemy and absolutely none of his records were played on our station. Upon reflection it would have seemed wickedly humorous to have people tuning into our station while playing Buck's records but the powers that be didn't see it that way. Later on the idea of considering Buck Owens as an enemy was a load of stupid childish bullshit as far as I was concerned. A lot of people looked on Buck as as a country bumpkin but just the opposite was true. Buck Owens was a smart, tough, hardworking buisnessman and in Phoenix his station eventually prevailed over ours. Buck apparently viewed his music as more American than Country but to these ears his music was as Country as Country could get. I'll miss him. Stereojack
It's kind of sad that he's being remembered primarily as the co-host of "Hee Haw." Yes, really. The man was a major country stylist, and a big influence in his day. He had already accomplished a lot by the time he got the Hee Haw gig. catesta
Watching TV this morning I saw a story that mentioned Buck was performing Friday night in Bakersfield and had to leave the stage in the middle of the show.
HolyStitt
Watching TV this morning I saw a story that mentioned Buck was performing Friday night in Bakersfield and had to leave the stage in the middle of the show. I thought that was interesting. They also said that he played twice a week in Bakersfield all the way up to this death. It's sad that the only things the press seems to mention are the Hee Haw and Beatles connections.
