Overdubbing, how prevalent is it in jazz?

Used overdubbing on a couple of my projects. Ira Sullivan dueted with himself on his project and multi-instrumentalist Brian Sandstrom added a guitar solo (on top of his bass playing) on the Hal Russell "Generation" date. Brian actually added the part more than a year after the fact.

According to the notes for Miles Ahead Miles overdubbed his fluegelhorn to previously the previously recorded orchestral parts on "Springville," "Miles Ahead," "New Rhumba" and "I Don't Want To Be Kissed (By Anyone But You)." The orchestra sections were recorded in May '57 while the overdubbing took place in August '57.
