New Orleans Jazz Mosaic

I wondered if anyone had any opinions on this, please?

I'm considering buying it, but wonder if it's overkill for someone just trying out this kind of music, or whether there may in fact be better introductions to the genre!

I was pleased with this set, but I found a better introduction to this genre through a series of recordings on Riverside called New Orleans/The Living Legends.

I have no knowledge of the New Orleans Mosaic but it does interest me if for no other reason than to learn and enjoy.

I've read that Mosaic can include sound clips on their page only if the original owner allows it. It's too bad there is nothing to listen to, via the Mosaic site, for this box.

It's an interesting set. The series that Tod mentions is an excellent one, but it's a bit like apples and oranges to me. I haven't visited the Mosaic recently but I do like it. If you have an interest in New Orleans traditional music, this is a good set to get your feet wet.

I agree with jazzbo ... a good set to wet the feet, esp. with the first disc (?) being traditional music played on the way to and from a funeral. Very interesting.
