Man with the Golden Arm Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 Looking for a disc that might contain Lynn Hope's 1950 take on "Tenderly". My Dad has recently expressed that that was his favorite song of all time and he probably hasn't heard it since the days when it was a hit. Found this on AMG but I can't figure out whether it might be just a remake type of album and not the original. Thanks for any hints. Quote
Dan Gould Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 MWGA, I picked this one up a while back, and I am almost certain it is a comp. and not a more recent recording. Are you looking for the actual disc or do you just want that tune? Here's a link to a GEMM dealer who has it in stock: http://www.gemm.com/ddc/search.pl?sid=3603...no=GML547889748 Quote
JohnS Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 I have the Saxophonograph lp with 1950 version of "Tenderley" on it. Entertaining stuff. The original turbanator maybe. Quote
Dan Gould Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 I checked the CD and Couw is partially right. It looks like the Scott/Hope material was recorded in 1950. Quote
paul secor Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 I checked the CD and Couw is partially right. It looks like the Scott/Hope material was recorded in 1950. I think that Dan meant to post the date for the Scott/Hope material as 1960. Hope's original version of "Tenderly" was released in 1950 on the Premium label and was a top 10 r&b hit. Quote
JohnS Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 (edited) Paul is right, this album gives the recording date as April 1950 in Chicago(?). With Hope are Mary Hope(p), Billy Davis(g), Ray Coulter(bass) and Billy Hope(d). Edited July 26, 2003 by JohnS Quote

That'll teach me to check what I post after I click "add reply"! Yes, the Juicy CD lists 1960 as the year of recording. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted July 26, 2003 Author Report Posted July 26, 2003 (edited) So I take it that to find the original might be a tough bid. I did check the site listed and "Morocco" looks to be only on LP at this time. (?) I am completely unfamiliar with Hope and need to get deeper to find out why Dad dug it so. Another one of those things where: "He doesn't know why, but just loved it". Thanks for doing the homework on this. Edited July 26, 2003 by Man with the Golden Arm Quote
