Daniel A Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 (edited) Maybe someone has mentioned this somewhere already - there has been an announcement that these BN titles will be deleted soon: Clifford Brown - The Complete Blue Note & Pacific Jazz Recordings Martial Solal - NY1 Peggy Lee - Travelin' Light Stefon Harris - A Cloud Of Red Dust Joe Lovano - Flights Of Fancy Jason Moran - Soundtrack To Human Emotion Greg Osby - Inner Circle Jimmy Rushing - Five Feet Of Soul Jacky Terrasson - Jacky Terrasson Various Artists - Yule Be-Boppin' Edited March 14, 2006 by Daniel A Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 I guess is costs too much to have so many titles in a record company's catalog. Some titles have to meet the ax. Quote
paul secor Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Can't believe that they'd delete the Clifford set. Well, I guess I can believe it, but that should be in print forever. Perhaps our friends over in Spain have released it, and are taking away sales. Quote
kulu se mama Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 i am pretty sure that everything on the clifford box is now available as an rvg. anyone interested at this point will probably opt for the individual titles over the box set. not only are they supposedly superior in sound quality, but it's alos probably a cheaper option. Д.Д. Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 This Solal disc was released less than 3 years ago! Quote
Daniel A Posted March 14, 2006 Author Report Posted March 14, 2006 Hardly surprising, but no less depressing, that the Solal album is deleted so soon. If you're thinking of getting it - do it now. It could possibly be that it may never be reissued again. Quote
paul secor Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 (edited) Re. the clifford box - That makes sense. I stand corrected. Edited March 14, 2006 by paul secor Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 The packaging of the Clifford Brown set has to be manufactured in large quantities to make the unit cost "livable". They undoubtedly ran out of them. Quote

sal Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 The Osby disc is particularly good, as is the Solal. Moran's disc is nice, but not as good as his subsequent stuff IMO. Quote
JSngry Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Is there anything about the book/whatever to the Clifford set that makes it "esssential"? Quote
J.A.W. Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Does anyone know who remastered the Clifford Brown set? Quote
Free For All Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Is the Stefon Harris worth picking up? Quote
ep1str0phy Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 The Osby disc is particularly good... What shocks me is that it's already getting deleted (it's only been around for a few years...). Quote

Yeah, it seems almost like that record just came out. Most of his Blue Notes are out of print, AFAIK, except for the last few. Quote

If it matters, my guess is that the Yourmusic.com version is not packaged in the format with the CD sleeves and booklet bound into a small hardcover like a book (as the Pacific Jazz Gerry Mulligan Quartet recordings were as well). When I got this set from BMG several years ago, the CDs were in a "fat boy" 4-cd jewel case with the jewel case and a separate booklet inserted into a cardboard slipcase. Quote

Wasn't "Friendly Fire", the one he did with Joe Lovano, deleted after only a couple of years as well? What the hell is going on? Quote

king ubu Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Does anyone know who remastered the Clifford Brown set? Anyone? I have it, but not being home I go from memory: I think it's not stated anywhere who remastered it... not the best of signs... my guess would be McMaster, but I really don't know. And no, the liners etc. do not make the set essential to have. I got it before the RVGs came out, and maybe today I'd get the RVGs instead. Quote
mikeweil Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 I'm relieved the Solal is the only one I have to get me right now ... the others I have or they don't interest me. Deleting titles after two or three years is normal for them - all the Osby CDs were deleted after that time - at least they announce it to give us a chance to get them while they're still available! I wish other labels would do that! Quote
king ubu Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 I have most of these, too, but I also need to get the Solal. How's the Rushing? Worth some pennies? Quote
Free For All Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Does anyone know who remastered the Clifford Brown set? Anyone? I just checked the booklet and there seems to be no remastering credit listed. Original session engineers are mentioned, but that's all. Quote
