Rooster_Ties Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Was Jack Wilson's "Easterly Winds" ever released on CD (presumably only in Japan, I'm guessing) in a jewelbox, which I also presume would have been as regular TOCJ issue?? I seem to remember it was released as part of the JRVG series (none of which I own), but I know those are all in those dreaded "mini-LP" formats, housed in cardboard (which I try to avoid, if possible). But I don't know if it was ever released on CD anywhere, other than the JRVG issue. Thanks!! -- Rooster T. Quote
Dan Gould Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I'm pretty sure it was issued as a TOCJ jewel box version. Though I'm sure Hans or someone will step in with the exact info. B) Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 23, 2003 Author Report Posted July 23, 2003 Thanks!!! I'm workin' on a trade with someone who said they had this in a regular jewel-box, but I was unaware of any other release other than the JRVG. Appreciate the info, and the quick turnaround!! -- RT Quote
wulfman Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Great disc, and great sound It's one of the 20-bit remasters. Quote
Templejazz Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I smell Connoisseur release for this one in the next year or so........my nose never lies Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 23, 2003 Author Report Posted July 23, 2003 Really?? Where'd you smell that??? And, what else is cookin'???????? Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I have A/B'ed the two TOCJ CDs and there was no contest: this is one of the JRVG where Rudy seemed to "miss". Of course, this is only my perception. Others have said the JRVG sounds fine. I happened to prefer the regular TOCJ in this case. If I remember correctly, the JRVG suffers from that "AM radio sound" that Rudy sometimes got. Compression? Overdriven treble? I don't know. Later, Kevin Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 23, 2003 Author Report Posted July 23, 2003 Doesn't matter too much - the guy who had one to trade, has it on hold for somebody else. Hope it does come out as a Conn sometime soon. I've never heard it, but I've got "Something Personal" and really like it, and the line-up on "Easterly Winds" looks outstanding. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 It's imperative that all steer way clear of that as a J-RVG. Incredibly bad and just what Kevin said. Not only AM but kind of like putting a pillow over your speakers. The TOCJ is the way to go and I think it can still be had from Hiroshi? McLean is so sweet on this one and Garnett Brown, who I am not very familiar with, gets on with some nice growling. Quote
Dan Gould Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Rooster, its definitely more in a hard bop vein than Something Personal is (which maybe you suspected from the lineup, but this is definitely the hard bop side Jackie Mac). Definitely a nice one, but definitely different. Quote

And, what else is cookin'???????? (is there an echo in here??) Actually I'm hoping that's what I smell. Either that or I need to do some laundry. Seriously, this one would make a great Conn release. I predict Summer 2004...........along with Goin West', Natural Essence, Dance w/ Death, and Cirrus.........aahhhh heck let's throw Contours in there as well Edited July 23, 2003 by Templejazz Quote
