Jim Alfredson
This Is The Place - organissimo They're back. After their introductory appearance in these pages a couple of years ago (8/03, p. 118) with Waiting For The Boogaloo Sisters..., this organ-fueled unit has apparently kept on cookin' on all burners around the Michigan area, eventually issuing this follow-up. Like it's forerunner, there is a prepoderance of boogaloo type material present with a few new wrinkles added. All of the titles stem from the band members except for the tried-and-true "Tenderly" which is Latinized and taken at an uncharacteristically brisk pace, and their Procol Harumish take on Frank Zappa's "Peaches en Regalia". There's some extra added percussion on two tracks and Johnny Gist adds his tenor to "Stomp Yo Feets", a medium boogaloo with a bridge. "Brother Ray" is a slow harmonica feature for drummer Randy Marsh that adds another sonic color to the palette. If you got off on their previous issue, look no further for, as the title truthfully states, "this is the place". ~ Larry Hollis
