One simple response might have defused the whole situation after the first comment about removing the music from your Ipod, back on 24 Feb.

There are alot of posters who have no problem with stealing music on this board. Your initial post made it sound like you were one of those. I apologize if that's not the case, but I never saw any clarification.

all this intellectual property stuff here is pretty petty and preposterous as far as mr. mingus is concerned. geez the guy was trying to sell some stuff probably to get some dough to buy some more stuff and keep the music biznitz as far as jazz goes alive a bit.

and now i guess we should all go and hand render own avatars rather than simply grab a logo that some sod painfully tweaked away at.

here, i'll start. :g

Delete from ipod if he sells the music he bought? He paid for it!

So buying used CDs is bad too, right? The artist sees no money. Ditto used LPs. And the content might all be on someone's ipod somewhere.

Remember when, in the late 80s-early 90s when Columbia Records was going to stop selling new material through stores that sold used CDs?

He bought and paid for the cd, that's all good. He can then make backup copies for his own personal use, too. Including electronic copies that can be placed on Ipods or other devices.

However, when the CD is sold, the right to possess backup copies of it is transferred to the new owner. He no longer can legally own backup copies of something he doesn't own the original of.

There have been a number of discussions about the topic of illegal copies of music (of which I'd include copies that exist on an Ipod when you no longer own the cd) on this board.

Just out of curiosty what happens if the Ipod breaks or gets stolen?

If you ever feel like stealing an ipod, first you thing you have to delete the files on it... otherwise you'll be hunted by the music industry for stealing intellectual property (never mind the poor chap who lost his ipod...)

The cd's were purchased for the purpose of listening to the music in them. I bought them and transfered the music to my iPod right away. That comment was made with the intention of letting the buyer know that the cd's were in great condition since they are not played constantly on a player. That fact, I hope, was confirmed by the users who received my cd's and posted here that they were in good conditions. I edited the post saying I deleted the music because I was a little angry and insulted a couple of you in the process of explaining this.

Well I certainly apologize if I offended you, but based on your original post it sure read like the music was still on the ipod, which is borne out by the fact that so many others read it the same way.

I don't think that most of us were in a position to divine your true intentions, and I am sure you will have no problem selling any remaining discs, at very fair prices indeed.

Again, my apologies.

Just a purely hypothetical question: earlier, in the days of vinyl and cassettes... if you made yourself a cassette of an LP, to play it in the car - I am absolutely sure when you sold the vinyl, or even when the vinyl got in such bad condition you no longer could play it, you trashed the cassettes, right? <_<

Hey, you're still allowed to keep the music on your Ipod after scratching the CD itself beyond recognition, as long as you keep the unplayable - but genuine - CD! :)

But to answer your question; no, (*cough*) I kept on playing my cassettes... ]

Well sure, we all would, except for a few saintly characters... let's just not pretend to be a saint if you ain't! Gets pretty cold here with all them saints around! :w

I'm not a saint, and I'm not getting on that soapbox again.

Maybe it's my turn to take a little break from posting here. Two hot-button topics (Jazzis' spam and illegal copying) back to back is a little much for me I guess. Sorry if I've offended anyone.

Sorry if I've offended anyone.

I missed the real action in this thread, so I couldn't tell if and how much anyone would be offended, but don't lose any sleep over Jazzis - he seems to be a somewhat unreasonable character.

I guess I missed more than you.

Is Jazzis still posting?
