randissimo Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 (edited) 2 years ago I had the pleasure of doing 2 hits with Vic Juris. A concert at Interlochen Fine Arts Academy and the Firefly in Ann Arbor.. I was recently contacted by Interlochen Fine Arts Academy near Traverse City to do another concert with Vic. It will be a trio with bassist Jack Dryden. The date will either be March 2nd or April 13th.. Vic is truly a great guitarist. Very creative and always challenging. For those of you not familiar with Vic Juris, he is a versatile and accomplished guitarist of note with lots of profound experience and history, and has played in many settings ranging from traditional and straight ahead styles as well as his interest in improvisational forms that are more experimental in nature.. He likes to play in an open ended trio situation, allowing a greater range of freedom.. Edited February 22, 2006 by randissimo Quote
Guest akanalog Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 he did some good stuff with eric kloss too, right? Quote
Clunky Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 What little I've heard of Juris reminds me of Billy Bauer Quote

Jim Alfredson Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Yep. Vic usually plays with just bass and drums. He's a bad mofo. Quote

randissimo Posted February 22, 2006 Author Report Posted February 22, 2006 (edited) Yep. Vic usually plays with just bass and drums. He's a bad mofo. Vic's 2004 cd on the Steeple Chase label, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was recorded in an organ trio format with Jesse Chandler on the B3 & Tim Horner on drums. Werf Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 (edited) Very cool, Randy! Vic was wonderful the four times he was in G.R. with David Liebman, three times at Jazznight at The Bob, and at a GVSU noon concert. Vic has a floating harmonic sense, shimmering around the edges, and he can rip strange sounds from his ax. He's got great titles, too, "Vampicide,""Critters" and "Romulan Wine" (hey, he's a Trekkie!!). I bet he enjoys playing with you, Randissimo. Edited February 22, 2006 by Werf Quote

RonF Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 That's very cool indeed, Randy. There's a Vic tribute to Barney Kessel on this that is tremendous. Great album. New last year. Quote

Dr. Rat Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 So when's it going to be? Interlochen, of course, being far too good to actually call the local jazz station and inform them. --eric Quote

Interlochen, of course, being far too good to actually call the local jazz station and inform them. --eric These concerts are put together annually by John Wunsch, and though you certainly could come if you wanted, they are typically put together as a workshop/concert event in the chapel for the Interlochen student body.. I just got confirmation yesterday. The concert will be April 13th I believe at 7 pm.. Quote
