mgraham333 Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 (edited) It would be a 2-disc set, but I would like to see: Stanley Turrentine's Up At Minton's And how about Kenny Dorham's Trompeta Toccata and some more from Duke Pearson, Kenny Burrell and Lou Donaldon! Does anyone have the scoop yet on the summer batches? Edited February 16, 2006 by mgraham333 Quote
sal Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I'd like to see some Sam Rivers, and more Bobby Hutcherson. Quote
sjarrell Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Top of the list should be Freddie Hubbard's Here to Stay. And Mobe's Another Workout. And ZT's Blues! And yeah, more LD, as there's not enough out there, and I'm sure the royalty money would be most useful while he's alive to spend it! Quote
Guest akanalog Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 i would like to see here to stay again too! trompeta tocata is also a good one. Quote
Quincy Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Horace Silver's The Jody Grind. And what Sal said! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I'm hoping Rudy gets the chance to mine the vast Asian catalog of EMI. Quote
Big Al Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 And Mobe's Another Workout. Pity Blue Note didn't stick this session on the Workout RVG. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Horace Silver's The Jody Grind. And what Sal said! This one needs RVG treatment for sure. Hubbard's "Here to Stay" could use a remastering as well. Quote
robert h. Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I second the Here to Stay requests, and the more Sam Rivers and Bobby Hutcherson - but overall - my hugest hope: NOTHING THAT IS ALREADY OUT AS AN RVG IN JAPAN!! Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I'm hoping Rudy gets the chance to mine the vast Asian catalog of EMI. You lost me Chuck. Private joke maybe? BTW, I don't understand why anyone would want "The Jody Grind" RVG'ed. It's been revealed that "The Jody Grind" master tape is gone and that all CD releases have used an LP master tape (known in internet parlance as a "needle drop"). I suppose RVG did a nice job with Duke Pearson's "Sweet Honey Bee", which has the same problem, but from what I heard when I compared the original CD to the RVG, it wasn't a dramatic improvement. By "original CD", do you mean the Rare Grooves issue from 1993 or thereabouts? Now I haven't heard the RVG, but I can attest that the TOCJ-4252 release (while still dubbed from vinyl, of course) is a quite noticeable improvement over the Rare Grooves edition. So I would think it's possible to top the rather so-so tranfer of the earlier Jody Grind as well. Quote
BruceH Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Here To Stay---YES!!! Gotta agree with everyone on that. Another Workout, Leapin' and Lopin', City Lights and the other early Lee Morgan albums, and John Hardee. Also Flight To Jordan would be nice. And the first Johnny Griffin BN. Quote

Kevin A "needle drop" is a literal dubbing of a pressing. That indeed is the case with Jody Grind - listen carefully and you can hear groove noise. Quote

BruceH Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Jody Grind is not one of my favorite Silver albums (though it's far from the worst.) Quote
JSngry Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 What are the odds the there's still a clean stamper for Jody Grind lying around somewhere and they could repress the vinyl! I know, slim just left town... Quote
king ubu Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Top of the list should be (...) And ZT's Blues! Not half as good as it looks on paper, sorry to say. I'd rather like to see Stanley's first one, "Look Out!", which I've never heard. Also the Minton's dates are great, but I guess I won't downgrade from regular CD to cactus... Quote

ZT is good but not as good as one would expect, you're right. Still, it shouldn't be out of print. But Look Out is absolutely swell indeed. Good call! And while I'm here: The Rajah and Far Away Lands need to be back on the racks... Quote
chris olivarez Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 Jody Grind is not one of my favorite Silver albums (though it's far from the worst.) I liked the "Jody Grind" even with James Spaulding on it but the art work just blows. Quote

Brad Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 I'd like to see some John Hardee out. Few too people have the Mosaic or the Classics disc. He needs more recognition. Quote
