Guest Chaney Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 But he also won a "True Blue" TOCJ for $16.85, which is an excellent price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=2547622685 Ahhh... yes Claude. But without the highly prized obi. This release works only if the obi is present. Obi-less and it's a dog. Quote

garthsj Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 I want to warn all of the folks on here that the Buddy DeFranco/SonnyClark set on Mosiac is one of the worst they ever put out. Under no circumstances should any of you even bother to bid for this set...a total waste of your money .. Garth, Houston. Quote

connoisseur series500 Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 Here's one for you guys: One seller was offering Woody Shaw/Freddie Hubbard sessions cd for only $8.99 buy-it-now. I already own it, but emailed the seller to see if he accepted any other kind of payment other than paypal. While awaiting his response, some moron puts in a bid of a dollar and the buy it now option disappears!! I couldn't contain myself and emailed the guy to ask him if he is either stupid or greedy or both? Current bid is $1.50. I guess $8.99 buy it now was not cheap enough for this idiot. Quote
Stefan Wood Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 I'm not sure what you're saying. The guy could have bid $4.99, or .01, or $8.98 and the Buy It Now option would have disappeared. The seller should have placed a higher minimum starting bid if he wanted to get the money he asked for. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 What I'm saying Stefan is that he should have just hit the buy it now without placing a bid. Does he reallye expect to get it for less than $8.99? Quote
Stefan Wood Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 Gotcha. Some people are just cheap....... I remember working at a used record store and some guy comes in, looks at our prices (averaging $3 - $7), and loudly complaining at the prices, talked about how down in Florida he could go into a thrift store or some place and find these same lps for a quarter a piece. Naturally, I showed him the door, and pointed the nearest thrift store out to him. Quote
Parkertown Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 That's just perfect Stefan! Totally know what you're saying Conn500. That irks me as well. My trouble is I usually find these after the BIN option is gone, because of a stoopid bid. Quote
kulu se mama Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 well i finally got the one mosaic i was missing - the ike quebec / john hardee. i was on vacation last week, so i was able to stay up late after my wife went to bed. i was on the computer on wednesday night, and i decided to check ebay before i shut the thing down. it's 12:30 eastern time, and the quebec/hardee had been listed 11 minutes prior with a "buy it now" of $140! i couldn't believe my eyes. i was so excited / nervous, that i actually became slightly dizzy. i immediately jumped on it. the set arrived today - yippee! keep in mind that a copy of this set sold for over $300 just a few days prior. Seems like it would help Ebay. Since, the faster an auctin closes, the sooner, ebay can bill for their commission. Quote

Since, the faster an auctin closes, the sooner, ebay can bill for their commission. Except, by having it the way it is now - that encourages people to take advantage of "buy it now" options right then and now!! - cuz if you wait and somebody even so much as make a silly $1 opening bid - then you won't get it. The way the system is now encourages quick decision-making when the "buy it now" option is available. Quote
Gary Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 I've used buy it now on Ebay UK once - i picked up Tranes quintet Impulse box (which hardly ever seems to appear on the UK site ) for £25.00 (approx $40 ). I think its a case of being in the right place at the right time. Quote
jacknife Posted August 16, 2003 Author Report Posted August 16, 2003 This seems pretty crazy, is this really that rare? Rare WES MONTGOMERY Promo Photo #2 8x10 Quote

They do little to enable or encourage buyers picking up stuff cheap. BTW, I believe that Hubbard/Shaw sessions went cheaper than the buy-it-now. Why? Does everyone hate paypal or something? Quote
Alfred Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Yabbadabadooooooooooo! What a cool price for this sealed Artie Shaw box. I don't know the music but for this price I can't do something wrong, right?!!! eBay: Artie Shaw Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Jeez, Alfred; am I reading this right? You got the 5CD Artie Shaw set for one friggin' Euro??? I am seriously impressed... Quote
Claude Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 (edited) I spotted this CD of Bob Belden's Turandot this morning: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...egory=1056&rd=1 As most of you will know, it is an extremely rare CD, because the album had to be withdrawn due to legal problems with the Puccini estate. So it was surprising to see it at $8 and only two hours to go. Could this be because of the damaged booklet? I was beginning to hope for a unique opportunity and was ready to bid up to $25. But then the price rocketed up to $76. Edited August 18, 2003 by Claude Quote
jlhoots Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 Belden's Turandot is a great CD. I was lucky enough to have someone bring a copy back for me from Japan when it was first issued. $75 - wow! Quote
Ed S Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 I had my eye on that one as well. I was watching it sit all week at $8 and was hoping for an opportunity. With about 25 minutes left it was still at $41. That put it out of my range. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 Yeah, I noticed it a couple nights ago too. Quote
Leeway Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 (edited) I notice that Lovano performs on the CD. I wonder if that is where he came up with the idea for his Caruso album? I don't understand how using Puccini material created a problem. Isn't it in the public domain by now? Edited August 18, 2003 by Leeway Quote
