garthsj Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 The cult of Sonny Clark weaves its bidding magic once again! Well .. as a DeFranco fan, I think that his prowess might also have something to do with it, too! I am intrigued by this price, because all of this material has been reissued in the last few years on very cheap sets (but good quality audio) by the Spanish and Andorrean labels ... I own a pristine LP set, which I can no longer play ... I wonder what that would be worth today? ... and thanks to the kind Organissimo friend who made me a CDR of this set, which I can play! Quote
Peter Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 The sold-out in presale Grateful Filmore box is up to $300! I'm glad I bought 2 copies! http://cgi.ebay.com/Grateful-Dead-Filmore-...1QQcmdZViewItem Quote
Tony Pusey Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 Peter, are you going to listen to the Dead in stereo since you have 2 copies? mine has not yet arrived but here I was thinking that it was already in stereo... Quote
Peter Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 Actually, I speculate in limited releases on occassion. I thought the Dead Filmore box to be a no brainer, but had no idea it would sell out in pre-sale! Looks like they really underestimated the market on it. Quote
BeBop Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 $2000 and no feedback. Member since 2002? No other items listed now. Go for it. I won't be outbidding you. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...=ADME:B:SS:US:1 Quote

I thought the Dead Filmore box to be a no brainer, but had no idea it would sell out in pre-sale! Looks like they really underestimated the market on it. That $330 is way down from the highs ($470?) a few weeks back when folks were selling off their boxes before they'd even been received. These guy's will probably pull a Toshiba and re-issue the 'limited edition' box. Quote
jazzbo Posted December 8, 2005 Report Posted December 8, 2005 (edited) They swear they are not going to reissue the box set (I believe them, after all they're not part of this administration), but are going to sell the four original nights as digital downloads. Guest Posted December 11, 2005 Report Posted December 11, 2005 It seems to me that prices of Mosaic sets have gone done significantly in the past two months. Even sets such as the Larry Young, Mc Lean, Art Blakey, Andrew Hill, Shorty Rogers, Phil Woods, Maynard Ferguson etc are selling for much less than they used to a few months ago! Any idea why? ← I've been wondering about that myself. Couldn't figure out if it was because a lot of that music has been released since they went OOP, or what. End of world nearing. (?) Zeno Quote
Guest Posted December 11, 2005 Report Posted December 11, 2005 If my memory is right the Phillips/Ventura set went OOP with somewhat under 2000 copies sold, which may have influenced the price a bit. Over $600 is still totally crazy. I didn't realize that Mosaic sets went OOP before they reached their stated limited edition size of 3000, 5000, 7500, 10000 or whatever. Maybe this is just the loophole Mosaic needs to justify bringing back some OOP sets which did not originally meet their goals, like the Shorty Rogers or others. hmmmmm? I guess we all have our stories of Mosaic sets we spaced out on, procrastinated too long on, or mistakenly thought we didn't want. I have very many on LP and some on CD from when they first came out, and mostly regret the Shorty Rogers (125) and the Johnny Hodges (126). Most others I either have or do not regret. An aquaintance had the 3 vols. of Commodore, so I didn't feel the need, and that was way too many sides! Zeno Quote

I believe the licensing agreement dictates not only a specific maximum number of copies, but also a time limit, whichever comes first. Hence, certain sets will go out of print having sold fewer than the maximum allowed. Quote

It also depends on the particular set as to whether and by how much its license limits time in addition to quantity, as the Mosaic site states: The leases vary in detail, but in every case there's a cap on either the number of units we are allowed to manufacture or the number of years we're allowed to offer the set for sale. ASNL77 Posted December 11, 2005 Report Posted December 11, 2005 Another set going for much less than it used to! This is a bargain. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Complete-Jackie-McLe...1QQcmdZViewItem Quote

sidewinder Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 I can't say I'm suprised, as I think it's only 'Compulsion' that hasn't been reissued on domestic CD. The LP version of the set is still pricey though ! Quote
