jacknife
I see that the Mosaic mis-recorded Grachan Moncur disc just sold on ebay for $23.50! Is this disc going to become a collectors item? I just received the Moncur set with the free screwed up disc, I'd gladly sell it for that! Maybe in a year or two it will sell for more, who knows! I wonder how may of these faulty discs were produced.
Saint Vitus
Is this disc going to become a collectors item? I doubt it ... If this were a rock record, maybe ... but I don't think they'd be many jazz fans so gullible for this to attract consistenly a high price. RDK
If i remember the right auction, you can't even blame the seller for this wackiness. Wasn't he forthcoming about the error, the fact that Mosaic is correcting it (for free!), and that you can buy the entire Mosaic set for not much more? BFrank
Right - the seller is a member of the AAJ BBS and he was very up front about the status of this disk. Even he was amazed by the final price.
wesbed
I was considering selling my extra Moncur disk. Then, decided to keep it to see if it has any value in the months/years to come. Not that I really care that much about the money, I suppose. I purchased the Moncur box for the music, not the investment. On the other hand, the disk may have value amongst jazz snobs. Out2Lunch
I think it would be wise to wait as well. I don't think that lightning strikes the same place again too soon!
BFrank
Not exactly crazy, but it's the first time I have seen more action for Thad Jones than Sam Rivers. Thad just sold for $93 with 11 bids, and Sam for $86 with 5.
Rooster_Ties
Can somebody remind me what the content is on the screwed-up Mosaic "Moncur" disc, they they sent out replacements for??
ralphie_boy
Disc 1 contains One Step Beyond, but the first track is actually Hipnosis, rather than Saturday and Sunday.
Rooster_Ties
So it's just one track that's wrong (and one track only), and not an entire disc?? For instance, it's NOT that the disc labeled "disc 1" actually plays all of "disc 3".
Soulstation1
it's just the ONE song only. ss1

sidewinder
Anyone want to part with Don Cherry's Mosaic box? I'm still looking for one... There's the CD set up on ebay right now ...
BFrank
What's the deal with the 20+ Promo sets up there by the seller - sadg? How legit could this be? Although........the seller does have 100% positive feedback reviews and well over 200 of them. Interesting.
Claude
Is this a "sex sells" stategy or just an embarrassing error? JAZZ AT THE PORNSHOP 2LP SET (NICE)
Ed S
I think it's the sex sells angle. Ever see the Inside Deep Note titles at Dusty Groove?
Guest Chaney
I'm sure the error (intentional? unintentional?) is drawing extra attention to this auction. Maybe I'll sell me copy of Freddie Hubbard's Night of the Hookers.

Brad
The highest price for a Jackie McLean Mosaic set I have seen so far: $280 (= $70 per disc) I thought the price on these were dropping. Guess there's been a spike in the market.
pryan
I know next to nothing about e-bay "goings on", but found something strange when looking at the bidding history for that $280 McLean set. That guy who won, at one point, was increasing his bid by 10 bucks (numerous times), even though he still had the highest bid. Why wouldn't he just wait until someone else bidded higher than him? Is he trying to intimidate the other bidders? Please, enlighten me on the subject.

Pretty outrageous. Especially since an Andrew Hill just recently sold for less than $200, which I thought was very reasonable.

Looking at the prices, I would say that the "reserve price" was $200.00, so the person kept going up $10.00 until he hit $200.00, thus insuring that he would have a chance to win the set.
