Jim Alfredson Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 Gene's got a nice website that I just found: www.geneludwig.com And I see he's coming to Baker's Keyboard Lounge on May 5th and 6th. I'm there! Also, check out this picture of Gene, Jerry Byrd, and my man Randy Gilespie: http://www.geneludwig.com/pages/pic5.html And this one, from 2003 of Gene, Bob DeVos and Billy James (he's still alive!?!?) http://www.geneludwig.com/pages/pic15.html And then there's this one with Gene and Jimmy McGriff, who has some sort of creature on his head.... http://www.geneludwig.com/pages/pic26.html Quote
Dan Gould Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I picked this one up last year at a Houston Person concert: Gene and Bob sound very good together. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I've loved Gene's music since the year dot. My only problem with him is that he looks a lot like my father. MG Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted January 31, 2007 Author Report Posted January 31, 2007 Up to the skies because I was listening to Gene's album "Back On Track" the last few days, with his killer version of Monk's "In Walked Bud". In taking that one apart, I realized what a hard tune that is to play on the organ. The melody with the bassline is hard enough. Then when you add the bassline Ludwig is playing (which isn't hard on it's own, but is different than what I would normally play), it gets harder! I almost have it nailed! Fun tune to solo on and Gene tears it up! Quote
mikeweil Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 (edited) Had a listen to the duo CD he made with a drummer - Double Exposure with Cecil Brooks III. Have placed it on my wish list. This man sounds like a summary of older and modern Hammond stylings to me. Edited February 8, 2007 by mikeweil Quote
