Tom in RI Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Nice article in today's Globe. Not online yet, as far as I can tell, I'll post it when it is. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Props to Phil! The hardworking man with the horn. . . . Quote
Joe G Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Phil's definitely one of "the Deserving Many", to quote the title of a Joshua Redman tune. Nice article! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Here you go. HOLY SHIT, PHIL LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!!!! Quote

ValerieB Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Phil's definitely one of "the Deserving Many", to quote the title of a Joshua Redman tune. Nice article! just want to add a big "amen" to that! and the guy is a sweetheart as well! Quote
Larry Kart Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Because I like Bill Carrothers a lot (both as a soloist and as a pianist who contributes subtly to the group) and because Phil keeps growing, I slightly prefer the second CD, rec. 2002, ("Playful Intentions") to the first ("Sweet Transients"), rec. 2000, but they're both excellent. Great news that a third album in in the works. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 I only have and know "Playful Intentions", but I also wanted to say how great I thought it was. And also mention that Bill Carrothers is one of my favorite "unknown" musicians on the scene today. Nearly anything I discover with Carrothers on it I almost always automatically buy. Quote

Big Wheel Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 Here you go. HOLY SHIT, PHIL LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!!!! Clearly you guys don't have to ride the Green Line B branch on a routine basis. That train is still about 45 minutes away from reaching Phil. (Beantown in-joke: the Green Line, especially the B train, is agonizingly slow.) Quote
Stereojack Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 Phil's been a regular customer of mine for years. Nice guy. Quote

That train is still about 45 minutes away from reaching Phil. (Beantown in-joke: the Green Line, especially the B train, is agonizingly slow.) As I recall there is a stop every five feet, especially through BU. I used to take the B line from Brighton into Kenmore Square for work. Quote

Trumpet Guy Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Thank you Chuck! I'm honored! I was in San Diego recently-heard trumpet "legend" Don Ferrara lives there. Got a phone # now--I wanna' call him next visit out.True dat Don Ferrara is out there? For those that don't know--that tune Chuck checked out, "Sunflower", was composed by Don Ferrara on the record by Lee Konitz, "Very Cool". Quote
