Guest ariceffron
Just a note to all those skeptical about the Doors now, they were abosutely solid. it was an exceptionally good show, and the crowd was going NUTS. everyone was into it 100%. even after the dude came out to say sorry theres a curview no more encores but thanx for commin' [cue house lights]- 1 min later ray comes back out and was all fuck that shit lets rip another one and they did peace frog. it was so good. ray also said in the tradition of supproting fine products...like volxwagon, and microsoft, etc...he was like to support another one: LSD. the crowd went wild. the band was so good. the highlight for me was la woman but the majority of the songs they performed were not the big hits but the album cuts and crazy psych jams. did you know that the doors recorded their 1st demo at dick bock's pacfic jazz studios. a lot of their songs have bossa nova rhythms to them. like light my fire or break on therough and many more. they even hired curtis amy and leroy vinnager. 2 pacific jazz artists. im telling you, the doors could win their lawsuit if they played a bootleg of this show in court, to show how happy they are making america right now. after so many years. but they kind of fucked themsleves over beacuse all the between song jabber was about doin lsd, and extacy, and peyote, and the reefer, and the shrooms, and i dont even remember what else. i guarentee you he didnt say anything about the coke though. yea all that stuff would need to be edited out, but then, if the other sides lawyers found a full bootleg copy and showed that, they would be screwed. BFrank
Anybody pick up any of the Rhino/Dark Midnight albums? I just got the "Live in Detroit" set and it's a really good show and the sound quality is excellent, too. What's interesting is that you really get the ENTIRE show, including between song banter and tuning up (if you're into that stuff). I think most of these are limited editions and some are already OOP.

BFrank
I didn't realize that there was an Other Voices/Full Circle CD, myself. Not sure if I need it as I don't listen to the LPs very often. But good to know that it's out there.
AllenLowe
the Doors sucked as a band, were quite dull, though Morrison wrote some fairly intelligent songs - I saw them twice and almost nodded off each time. The first time, interestingly enough, was when they opened for Simon and Garfunkel at Forest Hills, August of 1967 or 1968. Most interesting thing about this was that the guitarist, at this concert, wasn't playing the lead parts - we had binoculars, and could see clearly that he wasn't playing any of the figures. Years later I read an article in Guitar Player magazine about Hollywood studio players, and it mentioned one guy who had traveled with the Doors early on. Mystery solved. But I agree, excellent live recording with one of the best "you are there" sounds I've ever heard. I love the almost 40-year old crowd banter, but I almost wish they trimmed it a little bit.
