Eric
Greart news on the Roy Ayers. This was the first collaberation between Ayers and Jack Wilson if I am not mistaken. I think Curtis Amy is on some tracks as well.
Son-of-a-Weizen
I think Curtis Amy is on some tracks as well. Yes, he's swinging away all over it. He's at his best (imo) on 'Reggie of Chester.' Does anyone have an e-mail address for this outfit? Nothing listed on that site.

jazzbo
I preordered the Ray Nance. I have to have Ray Nance cds. I passed on the Ayers. I have the lp, I have the Vi Redd lp that the bonus material is from. . . .

J.A.W.
Hans, I got an email confirmation from paypal right away. . . . Yep, got one too, pretty soon after I'd posted here. The "road" across the pond seems to take longer than the one to Texas...
jazzbo
I advised paypal that it was best for them to "get it while you can"!
Hank
I placed an order for the Ayers and Nance discs with Mighty Quinn a week or so back, and I received this reply from Jerry @ MQ two days ago: Thank you for your continued support. This is the way I saw my very small business growing. Repeat customers will be the only way to keep things moving forward. I just wanted you to know your repeat business means alot. The new releases our scheduled for March 14th, I'll ship them as soon as they arrive. Peace, Jerry
ghost of miles
I'm ordering the Ayers through a local record shop--just noticed that it has two bonus tracks from a Vi Redd album. Isn't she the saxophonist from the International Sweethearts of Rhythm? If so, I loved her playing with that band... How is the Pilgrim Travelers/Lou Rawls, btw? Vi Redd is an alto player & singer whose details can be found on the All Music Guide. AMG fails to mention a date she did with Marian McPartland in the 70's. jazzbo
It's a shame they are not doing the Vi Redd lp in its entirety. TOCJ released it several years as a "Blue Note Club" item. . . . It's great.
Bluerein
Wow, Lon where did you get that one??? Indeed a nce album. Let's hope Warner (Japan) will reissue her Atlantic LP soon as well.
jazzbo
I've been listening to the Nance cd. Wow. It's so nice to have this on cd. And as rare as it is this cd sounds better than the lp. The 24 bit remastering by Mantis Evans and the transfers by Kevin Bartley are very nice!
mikeweil
Received the Ayers today. Never heard the LP, but the CD sounds good. Not to speak of the music .....
JSngry
Again I ask - is that LaWanda Page on the cover? I do believe it is.
Fer Urbina
Excited about the Ayers and Nance--wonder what the Eddie Costa reissue will be? Looks like it's going to be the "Memorial Concert", originally a Colpix LP taken from the in memoriam concert after Costa's death. The actual concert lasted well over seven and a half hours. jazzbo
Jim, do you mean "The Bronze Goddess of Fire"? http://www.lamebasement.com/shelter/images/lawanda.jpg
jazzbo
Jim, I really don't think so. LaWanda would have been in her forties when that picture was taken. That model looks a mite younger than that. . . to me at least.
JSngry
I dunno man. Plenty of outhful looking 40-ish wome, especially when a wig is added, asn seems to be the cse w/this model. I'm looking at the eyes and, in particular, the distance between the nose and the upper lip, and I'm seeing The Bronze Goddess of Fire!
