Francois Tusques

I posted something in "Jazz and Print" as well, but above is a link to a recent AAJ article on French pianist and free jazz catalyst Francois Tusques. He worked with Americans like Sunny Murray and uh, "me" in the late '60s and early '70s, as well as leading his own groups of free improvisation and ethnic stew. He is currently active in both a trio and larger settings, albeit rarely outside of France.

Also check the "recent articles" for a piece on the Minnesota Sur Seine festival, where I was able to meet and interview Francois, as well as see him lead a masterful quintet as well as play in duo with Minneapolis bassist Adam Linz.

Thoughtful comments and additional information are always welcome.

Thanks,

Clifford

Good to see François Tusques get some attention!

Tusques makes an appearance tomorrow at the Sons d'Hiver festival here with a trio that includes partner Noel McGhie on drums and bass player Adam Linz.

Only discs I've heard are the one with Thornton, & a really fascinating set of Futurist poetry settings called Arc Voltaic. Keep meaning to check him out more, though I'm not sure how one gets hold of In Situ discs in Canada.... (don't think Verge carries them?)

I enjoy the few bits of Tusques I know very much.

This is the only actual CD I own, and it's fantastic:

A swinging, warm, blues- and emotion-drenched date, with Denis Colin (bcl) and Noel McGhie (d). It's on the Tranes Européennes label, listed on the site David mentioned above, too.
