The Circuit City booster packs worked! The signs said $14.95, but they scanned as $4.95 at the register. Thanks for the tip!

Anyone know if you can apply more than one card to any one account?

Yes, as many as you want. Check out the emu message board for more info.

It's a beautiful thing! Thanks muchly.

Just spent my monthly allocation on a bunch of metal:

Entombed - Clandestine

Iron Monkey - Our Problem

Neurosis - Through Silver Blood

Khanate - Khanate

Isis - Mosquito Control

Om - Variations on a Theme

Om - Conference of the Birds

Also if you go to www.emusic.com/lovefilm you can get a trial with 35 free tracks and an audiobook! Go get my friends. I got the following with that:

Henry Cow - Unrest

Anthony Braxton - Trio & Duet

Miles Davis - 1963 Montery

The Monks - Monk Time

Terry Riley - In C (because you can never have to many recordings of this)

And I got an audiobook called Jazz:something or other. It's ok so far but a bit irritatingly American in delivery, my problem more than the mp3s I'm sure. He also pronounces things in an incredibly strange way. Is Louis Armstrong really Lew-iss rather than Loo-ee as I have thought for years?

Isn't it just! I've listened through 3 or 4 times now and there's a lot of stuff going on.

I think I'm going to try and get another free trial tonight using a different card :excited:

For those who enjoy electric RTF, they just added a 2 album anthology on the Concord label. Which is interesting since none of that music was originally released on Concord (AFAIK).

Also, because of a licensing agreement, you have to DL each album in its entirety - can't pick and choose tunes.

I think Chick Corea is a part-owner of Concord; he owns the Stretch label (distributed by Concord).

I spotted Archie Shepp with Horace Parlan in one list there. A ridiculous pairing? Not in the least. I saw them together on TV, recorded in Montréal I think. It was a fantastic performance. Back in the 60s, some of those "avant garde" guys seemed a little intimidating, but many years have passed since then ............

The music is great, but the fidelity of this album is lacking. Really great headphone, get lost in the vibe, music, then some distortion pulls you right back out.

I actually attended this gig, maybe i appear in the crowd shots who knows, they mostly played blues, a very fine evening although to see come on stage you had to be worry if they were going to make it through.

  • 2 weeks later...

Yes, that John Patton - Soul Connection just appeared, and I'll get it this afternoon. I had just been reading a good thread about that album.

Kind of wish I had noticed that, but I got the CD in near mint condition for a good price, and it is a nice one.

To make up for that, I held off from getting Ghost Rock by Nomo when I was in Dusty Groove, and it showed up right away on eMusic (yea!), so I downloaded that as well as two others that were available (Better Than That and New Tones).

I also grabbed

Barney Kessel - Some Like It Hot

Eric Kloss - About Time

Eric Kloss - First Class

Ojos de Brujo - Bari

Astor Piazzolla - Pulsacion

And then it was all over, like a kid spending his allowance all in one day.

There are a few others that are really calling to me, so I may try this Circuit City booster card deal. I think I'll be near one Tuesday evening.

I may have raised this before, but is there any way to contact eMusic about CDs that they probably ought to have (based on their having most of the other new releases from a label for instance) but don't? They seem particularly spotty on Delmark, though have been adding some new ones recently. I'm more interested in High Note, where they seem to have most of the releases except for one or two I'd really like (David Newman's Life esp.). Obviously the label may just have decided not to release that album to eMusic, but it could also just be an oversight that could easily be corrected with the next set of releases to eMusic (if someone let them know, that is -- so I suppose the other direction would be to contact High Note, but that seems an even longer shot to me).

Anyway, the contact them page is so specific and mostly about technical problems or canceling one's account. They claim not to monitor their Message Boards, so I don't think that is a feasible option either. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

Eric

Actually I changed my mind. I think it is probably easier to just contact the label and ask them to release Life to eMusic when they have any other new releases. But I am still wondering if there is a way to ask eMusic about such issues.

By the way, in addition to the RVG sampler that is still there, eMusic is offering 25 free songs from artists appearing at Pitchfork (at least a few people will be interested in some of the bands -- and for free you can dl the whole thing and delete any you don't like): Pitchfork. Apparently the offer is only for US and perhaps Canadian members, which has gotten a bunch of people worked up.
